Despite people facing a cost of living challenge, the Welsh Labour Government, along with their co-operation partners in Plaid Cymru, want to add another 36 politicians to the Welsh Parliament in Cardiff Bay.
First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, stated that, “We now need to get on with the hard work to create a modern Senedd, which reflects the Wales we live in today”. Whilst Leader of Plaid Cymru, Adam price, outlined that, “These reforms will lay the foundations for a stronger Welsh democracy and a fairer, more representative Senedd that will look entirely different to the outdated political system at Westminster.”
Yet when comparing the amount of politicians per head across the United Kingdom, Wales doesn’t need anymore. In the North West of England, there is a politician for every 4,700 people, whilst in Wales there is a politician for every 2,300 people.
Whilst the Welsh Labour Government and Plaid Cymru want more politicians, people across Wales are suffering with increased energy bills and living costs. It’s simply not right to be compounding the cost of living challenge with more costly politicians, expected to cost a whopping £100m.
As we sadly know, Wales’ health and education systems lag behind many parts of the United Kingdom, and are frankly not adequate. Instead of having another 36 Members of the Senedd, we could see 800 more nurses or 740 more teachers.
Along with this, the people of Wales haven’t had their say. Not one Labour candidate in north east Wales was straight with the public during last year’s election, and people are understandably angry that their hard earned money is set to be frittered away. This should be put to a vote of the Welsh people.
Rather than introducing this unpopular and costly change, the Welsh Labour Government should focus on the job at hand - improving the livelihoods of the people of Wales, which they’ve neglected for the last 23 years.

Fy marn i - The Leader
Er bod pobl yn wynebu her costau byw, mae Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru, ynghyd â'u partneriaid cydweithio ym Mhlaid Cymru, am ychwanegu 36 o wleidyddion eraill i'r Senedd ym Mae Caerdydd.
Dywedodd Prif Weinidog Cymru, Mark Drakeford, "Mae angen inni nawr fwrw ymlaen â'r gwaith caled i greu Senedd fodern sy'n adlewyrchu Cymru fel y mae heddiw”. Dywedodd Arweinydd Plaid Cymru, Adam Price, "Bydd y diwygiadau hyn yn gosod y sylfeini ar gyfer democratiaeth gryfach yng Nghymru a Senedd decach, fwy cynrychiadol a fydd yn edrych yn hollol wahanol i’r system wleidyddol o’r oes o’r blaen yn San Steffan.”
Ac eto, wrth gymharu nifer y gwleidyddion y pen ar draws y Deyrnas Unedig, nid oes angen mwy ar Gymru. Yng Ngogledd-orllewin Lloegr, mae un gwleidydd i bob 4,700 o bobl, tra bod gwleidydd i bob 2,300 o bobl yng Nghymru.
Tra bod Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru a Phlaid Cymru eisiau mwy o wleidyddion, mae pobl ledled Cymru yn dioddef gyda biliau ynni a chostau byw uwch. Yn syml, nid yw'n iawn i fod yn dwysáu'r her o ran costau byw gyda mwy o wleidyddion costus, y disgwylir iddynt gostio £100 miliwn.
Fel y gwyddom, yn anffodus mae systemau iechyd ac addysg Cymru ar ei hôl hi o gymharu â sawl rhan o'r Deyrnas Unedig, ac nid ydynt yn ddigonol o gwbl. Yn hytrach na chael 36 Aelod arall o'r Senedd, gallem gael 800 yn fwy o nyrsys neu 740 yn fwy o athrawon.
Ynghyd â hyn, nid yw pobl Cymru wedi cael dweud eu dweud. Nid oedd yr un ymgeisydd Llafur yn y Gogledd-ddwyrain yn onest gyda'r cyhoedd yn ystod etholiad y llynedd, ac mae'n ddealladwy bod pobl yn ddig y bydd eu harian yn cael ei wastraffu. Dylai pobl Cymru gael pleidleisio ar hyn.
Yn hytrach na chyflwyno'r newid amhoblogaidd a chostus hwn, dylai Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru ganolbwyntio ar yr hyn sy'n bwysig - gwella bywoliaeth pobl Cymru y maent wedi'i esgeuluso ers 23 o flynyddoedd.
