Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales slams Welsh Government for once again refusing to listen.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Local Government and Chairman of the Cross-Party Group on Tourism, was commenting after the Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething was asked to exempt those with disabilities and armed forces personnel, at a minimum, from paying a tourism charge.
Speaking in the Senedd, the Minister said that not all those people needed special rates and special treatment.
Mr Rowlands said:
Quite clearly the Welsh Government is once again refusing to listen to anything which could affect tourism in our country.
I have said it before and will continue to raise the issue. The tourism sector in my region of North Wales needs support not taxing.
I have spoken to numerous businesses in my region and there is genuine concern if the Labour government in Cardiff Bay insist on pressing ahead with an unwanted tourism tax.
Apart from driving people away from visiting our lovely country it will also have serious consequences for those who work in the hospitality sector.
Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi galwad am esemptiad treth twristiaeth i’r rhai ag anableddau neu weithwyr y lluoedd arfog
Sam Rowlands, yr AS dros Ogledd Cymru, yn hallt am Lywodraeth Cymru am wrthod gwrando unwaith eto.
Roedd Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Llywodraeth Leol yr Wrthblaid a Chadeirydd y Grŵp Trawsbleidiol ar Dwristiaeth, yn rhoi ei sylwadau ar ôl gofyn i Weinidog yr Economi, Vaughan Gething, eithrio’r rhai hynny ag anabledd a gweithwyr y lluoedd arfog, o leiaf, rhag talu’r dreth twristiaeth.
Gan siarad yn y Senedd, dywedodd y Gweinidog nad oedd angen cyfraddau arbennig a thriniaeth arbennig ar yr holl bobl hynny.
Meddai Mr Rowlands:
Mae’n amlwg fod Llywodraeth Cymru unwaith eto’n gwrthod gwrando ar unrhyw beth a allai effeithio ar dwristiaeth yn ein gwlad.
Rydw i wedi dweud a dweud, a byddaf yn dal i godi'r mater, cefnogaeth nid trethi sydd ei hangen ar y sector twristiaeth yn fy rhanbarth i o’r Gogledd.
Rydw i wedi siarad gyda sawl busnes yn fy rhanbarth ac mae pryder go iawn os bydd y llywodraeth Lafur ym Mae Caerdydd yn mynnu bwrw rhagddi gyda’r dreth dwristiaeth ddigroeso.
Ar wahân i rwystro pobl rhag ymweld â’n gwlad hyfryd, bydd ganddi hefyd ganlyniadau difrifol ar gyfer y rhai sy’n gweithio yn y sector lletygarwch.
