Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has slammed Welsh Government for continuing to let down patients in his region.
Mr Rowlands, a harsh critic of the way the Welsh Labour Government is dealing with problems over the running of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board was commenting on the latest Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) report relating to their inspection of the Emergency Department at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
He said:
I am so disappointed but not surprised to see a third inspection failing to find major improvements in the A&E department at the Bodelwyddan hospital.
As I have said time and time again, the staff work so hard to try and keep on top of things but they are constantly let down by the Welsh Labour Government shirking their responsibility.
Last week I called for the Health Minister to resign as it is clear that the responsibility to take a grip on delivering on health services in Wales rests with her.
The situation is particularly concerning here in North Wales. In my region we now see a health board back in special measures; a £122 million fraud investigation; a region with just 62% of health service buildings deemed to be safe; major concerns with vascular services; risks to patients, and of course following this latest report significant concerns at A&E in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
The people of North Wales deserve so much better.
In the report, the third inspection in a year failed to find any major improvements at Glan Clwyd hospital's emergency department and highlighted an ‘incredibly busy department, struggling with shortages of staff, high numbers of seriously unwell patients and a lack of space to treat them’.
It said that staff were said to be working tirelessly to give the best care possible, but the service still requires significant improvement.
Inspectors also said patients were at a significant risk of harm due to triage and pain relief delays and poor sepsis screening.
Betsi Cadawaladr University Health Board was recently placed back in special measures following a damning audit report and 11 independent board members were told to leave by the Welsh Government.
Sam Rowlands AS yn galw ar Lywodraeth Lafur Cymru i weithredu ar unwaith
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, wedi gwawdio Llywodraeth Cymru am barhau i fethu cleifion yn ei ranbarth.
Daeth sylwadau Mr Rowlands, beirniad hallt o’r ffordd y mae Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru yn delio â phroblemau dros redeg Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr, yn sgil adroddiad diweddaraf Arolygiaeth Gofal Iechyd Cymru (AGIC) ar eu harolygiad o’r Adran Frys yn Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Meddai:
Mae’n siom ond nid yn syndod i mi weld trydydd arolygiad yn methu â dod o hyd i welliannau o bwys yn yr adran damweiniau ac achosion brys yn yr ysbyty ym Modelwyddan.
Fel rwyf wedi dweud dro ar ôl tro, mae’r staff yn gweithio mor galed i geisio cael trefn ar y sefyllfa ond mae Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru yn parhau i anwybyddu eu cyfrifoldeb.
Yr wythnos ddiwethaf fe wnes i alw ar y Gweinidog Iechyd i ymddiswyddo gan ei bod hi’n glir mai gyda hi mae’r cyfrifoldeb i sicrhau gwasanaethau iechyd derbyniol yng Nghymru.
Mae’r sefyllfa yn arbennig o bryderus yma yn y Gogledd. Yn fy rhanbarth i mae gennym fwrdd iechyd sydd yn ôl dan fesurau arbennig; ymchwiliad i dwyll gwerth £122 miliwn; rhanbarth lle mai dim ond 62% o adeiladau’r gwasanaeth iechyd sydd wedi’u barnu’n ddiogel; pryderon mawr gyda gwasanaethau fasgwlaidd; risgiau i gleifion, ac, wrth gwrs, yn dilyn yr adroddiad diweddaraf yma, pryderon sylweddol yn yr adran damweiniau ac achosion brys yn Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Mae pobl y Gogledd yn haeddu cymaint gwell.
Yn yr adroddiad, methodd y trydydd arolygiad mewn blwyddyn â dod o hyd i unrhyw welliannau o bwys yn adran frys ysbyty Glan Clwyd a thynnodd sylw at ‘adran anhygoel o brysur, sy’n brwydro yn erbyn prinder staff, niferoedd uchel o gleifion difrifol wael a diffyg lle i’w trin’.
Dywedodd fod staff yn gweithio’n ddiflino i roi’r gofal gorau posib, ond bod angen gwella’r gwasanaeth yn sylweddol o hyd.
Dywedodd arolygwyr hefyd fod cleifion mewn perygl sylweddol o niwed oherwydd oedi o ran lleddfu poen a sgrinio sepsis gwael.
Yn ddiweddar cafodd Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr ei roi yn ôl dan fesurau arbennig yn dilyn adroddiad archwilio damniol a dywedodd Llywodraeth Cymru wrth 11 aelod annibynnol o’r bwrdd i adael.
