Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is delighted to see the Clinical Psychology and Occupational Therapy team receiving national recognition.
He said:
I am absolutely delighted for the team who have received the Macmillan Innovation Excellence Award for helping patients suffering from cancer related fatigue.
It is fantastic for North Wales and great that all their hard work developing an innovative new support and training programme has been recognised nationally.
Well done to everyone involved.
The Clinical Psychology and Occupational Therapy team were awarded the Macmillan Innovation Excellence Award with Macmillan Cancer allied health professional therapy lead within Betsi Cadwaladr, Jackie Pottle, receiving the prize on behalf of her colleagues.
Alongside consultant clinical psychologist Lisa Heaton-Brown, Jackie helped spearhead the development of a new service designed to raise awareness and improve support for cancer patients suffering with cancer related fatigue.
As a result, the Clinical Psychology and Occupational Therapy services teamed up to develop an innovative new support and training programme. This included providing professionals working across north Wales with the latest information and best practice in supporting people with cancer-related fatigue.
It became a rolling programme of virtual education sessions for health professionals, as well as the development of interactive video-group clinics designed to help patients self-manage their fatigue.
Importantly it is a service to which cancer patients can refer themselves, rather than waiting to be signposted by a clinician.
Jackie said:
Feedback from cancer patients who have benefited from the initiative is they feel the new programme validates their own experiences – it acknowledges CRF is a very real and physically debilitating issue.
The outcome was individual cancer patients felt they received direct, personalised support and developed coping strategies to help them to manage their fatigue in the future. The use of innovative, virtual peer support was vital in providing the support they so desperately needed.
Sam Rowlands AS yn llongyfarch tîm o Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr am ennill gwobr bwysig
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn falch iawn o weld y tîm Seicoleg Glinigol a Therapi Galwedigaethol yn derbyn cydnabyddiaeth genedlaethol.
Meddai:
Rwy’n hynod falch dros y tîm sydd wedi derbyn Gwobr Rhagoriaeth Arloesedd Macmillan am helpu cleifion sy'n dioddef o flinder cysylltiedig â chanser.
Mae'n wych i Ogledd Cymru ac yn wych bod eu holl waith caled yn datblygu rhaglen gymorth a hyfforddiant newydd arloesol wedi cael ei gydnabod yn genedlaethol.
Da iawn i bawb a gymerodd ran.
Dyfarnwyd Macmillan Innovation Excellence Award i'r tîm Seicoleg Glinigol a Therapi Galwedigaethol, gyda Jackie Pottle, arweinydd therapi proffesiynol iechyd perthynol MacMillan Cancer gyda Betsi Cadwaladr, yn derbyn y wobr ar ran ei chydweithwyr.
Ochr yn ochr â'r seicolegydd clinigol ymgynghorol Lisa Heaton-Brown, helpodd Jackie i arwain datblygiad gwasanaeth newydd a gynlluniwyd i godi ymwybyddiaeth a gwella cefnogaeth i gleifion canser sy'n dioddef gyda blinder sy'n gysylltiedig â chanser.
O ganlyniad, ymunodd y gwasanaethau Seicoleg Glinigol a Therapi Galwedigaethol i ddatblygu rhaglen gymorth a hyfforddiant newydd arloesol. Roedd hyn yn cynnwys rhoi'r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf a'r arfer gorau i weithwyr proffesiynol sy'n gweithio ledled y Gogledd wrth gefnogi pobl â blinder cysylltiedig â chanser.
Daeth yn rhaglen dreigl o sesiynau addysg rhithiol i weithwyr iechyd proffesiynol, yn ogystal â datblygu clinigau grŵp fideo rhyngweithiol a gynlluniwyd i helpu cleifion i hunanreoli eu blinder.
Mae’n wasanaeth pwysig y gall cleifion canser gyfeirio eu hunain ato, yn hytrach nag aros i gael eu cyfeirio gan glinigwr.
Dywedodd Jackie:
Yr adborth gan gleifion canser sydd wedi elwa ar y fenter yw eu bod yn teimlo bod y rhaglen newydd yn dilysu eu profiadau personol - mae'n cydnabod bod CRF yn fater corfforol gwanychol go iawn.
Y canlyniad oedd bod cleifion canser unigol yn teimlo eu bod yn cael cefnogaeth uniongyrchol, bersonol a’u bod wedi datblygu strategaethau ymdopi i'w helpu i reoli eu blinder yn y dyfodol. Roedd defnyddio cefnogaeth arloesol, rithiol gan gymheiriaid yn hanfodol wrth ddarparu'r gefnogaeth yr oedd cymaint ei hangen arnyn nhw.
