Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has praised a Connah’s Quay school for receiving a gold award for its active travel initiatives.
Mr Rowlands said:
I am a great supporter of the Active Journeys programme in Wales, which helps children across the country to safely, easily and confidently travel to school by foot, bike and scooter. Safe active travel is also so important for our physical health and wellbeing.
I was delighted to go along to Ysgol Bryn Deva to personally congratulate staff and pupils who have all worked so hard to gain this accolade.
Well done to everyone for gaining the gold award.
Sustrans Active Journeys programme, which is funded by the Welsh Government, works with schools across Wales to create a culture that makes it easier for children to walk, wheel, scoot, or cycle.
They support school champions and collaborate with local authority contacts to help improve routes and develop whole-school approaches to active travel.
A range of engaging activities helps to build the confidence, enthusiasm and skills needed to help form new active travel habits.
These activities and lessons support schools' efforts in achieving Eco-Schools and Healthy Schools awards, working towards the Sustrans Active Travel School Award which recognises excellence in sustainable travel.
Sam Rowlands AS yn llongyfarch Ysgol Bryn Deva am ennill Gwobr Ysgol Teithio Llesol Sustrans
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, wedi canmol ysgol yng Nghei Connah am dderbyn gwobr aur am ei mentrau teithio llesol.
Meddai Mr Rowlands:
Rwy’n gefnogwr brwd o’r rhaglen Teithio Llesol yng Nghymru, sy’n helpu plant ledled y wlad i deithio’n ddiogel, yn hawdd ac yn hyderus i’r ysgol ar droed, beic a sgwter. Mae teithio llesol diogel mor bwysig i’n hiechyd a’n lles corfforol hefyd.
Roeddwn i’n falch iawn o gael mynd i Ysgol Bryn Deva i longyfarch staff a disgyblion sydd i gyd wedi gweithio mor galed i ennill yr anrhydedd hon.
Da iawn bawb am ennill y wobr aur.
Mae rhaglen Teithio Llesol Sustrans, sy’n cael ei hariannu gan Lywodraeth Cymru, yn gweithio gydag ysgolion ledled Cymru i greu diwylliant sy’n ei gwneud hi’n haws i blant gerdded, mynd ar olwynion, mynd ar sgwter neu feicio.
Maen nhw’n cefnogi hyrwyddwyr ysgolion ac yn cydweithio â chysylltiadau awdurdodau lleol i helpu i wella llwybrau a datblygu dulliau ysgol gyfan o deithio llesol.
Mae amrywiaeth o weithgareddau difyr yn helpu i feithrin yr hyder, y brwdfrydedd a’r sgiliau sydd eu hangen i helpu i feithrin arferion teithio llesol newydd.
Mae’r gweithgareddau a’r gwersi hyn yn cefnogi ymdrechion ysgolion i ennill gwobrau Eco-ysgolion ac Ysgolion Iach, gan weithio tuag at Wobr Ysgolion Teithio Llesol Sustrans sy’n cydnabod rhagoriaeth mewn teithio cynaliadwy.
