Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has praised volunteers for collecting another accolade for their hospital radio station.
He said:
I am absolutely delighted to hear that a local hospital radio station in my region of North Wales has come out on top once again in a in a national competition.
In September, they were named Station of the Year for 2022 by the Hospital Broadcasting Association and now they have been awarded Bronze in the Digital or RSL Station of the Year 2022 category in the annual National Community Radio Awards. It is a fantastic achievement and I would like to congratulate everyone involved.
Volunteers who help to provide this valuable and much needed service deserve our heartfelt thanks and it is great to see all their hard work being recognised.
They carry out an amazing job keeping patients informed and entertained all day long and no doubt helping them with their recovery. I am looking forward to visiting the studio in the future and thanking them all in person.
It is the third consecutive year that Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd have finished in the top five of the National Community Radio Awards.
Station Chair Kevin Williams said:
To be in the top three in the UK is extremely special. We’re continually developing as a station with regular training and developing our programming schedule.
Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd has been broadcasting since 1976 and is run completely on a voluntary basis with a staff of all ages who ward visit, present programmes, fundraise and go around the community recording programmes of local interest.
