Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales is urging young famers, in his region, to travel and learn more about agriculture in other countries.
As a keen supporter of agriculture and rural affairs, he is calling on young people, under the age of 30 years, to apply for the Gareth Raw Rees Memorial Scholarship.
Mr Rowlands said:
The scholarship fund provides a wonderful opportunity for young farmers who are keen to learn more about agriculture and farming methods in other parts of the world.
As everybody knows it is more important than ever these days to gain a wider knowledge of the agricultural industry and it is great to see such opportunities available for young farmers in Wales.
I would urge anyone interested to make sure they apply.
The scholarship, which receives an annual donation from the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust, is looking for applicants considering travelling in the UK, Europe or further afield. If you are under 30 years old and would like some financial assistance with your travels, then contact NFU Cymru for an application form – even if you have already received support from another scholarship or fund.
NFU Cymru County Adviser, Peter Howells said: “The scholarship fund was launched in 1984 in memory of the late Gareth Raw Rees MBE from Ceredigion whose considerable energies had always been directed towards promoting the interests of young people in farming and in the countryside. He was a firm believer in the inestimable benefits of travelling towards the fulfilment of a broader and more rewarding education.”
Trevor Lloyd, Chairman of NFU Mutual’s Advisory Board for Wales said: “In today’s fast changing agricultural industry, it’s vital that our young farmers gain a wider perspective to help them farm successfully, which is why NFU Mutual is a strong supporter of the scholarship scheme. Over the years we’ve received some exceptional applications from some very capable and enterprising young people and have been able to support their efforts in visiting and learning about a variety of agricultural techniques employed across the globe.”
The closing date for applications is Friday June 23 2023 and the winners will be announced on the Tuesday of this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
For an application form, contact Peter Howells at NFU Cymru on 01982 554200 or email [email protected]. A copy of the guidelines and an application form is also available here.
Sam Rowlands AS yn annog ffermwyr ifanc i wneud cais am gyfle i deithio'r byd
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros ranbarth y gogledd, yn annog ffermwyr ifanc yn ei ranbarth i deithio a dysgu mwy am amaeth mewn gwledydd eraill.
Fel un sy’n gefnogwr brwd dros amaethyddiaeth a materion gwledig, mae'n galw ar bobl ifanc dan 30 oed i ymgeisio am Ysgoloriaeth Goffa Gareth Raw Rees.
Dywedodd Mr Rowlands:
Mae'r gronfa ysgoloriaeth yn rhoi cyfle gwych i ffermwyr ifanc sy'n awyddus i ddysgu mwy am amaeth a dulliau ffermio mewn rhannau eraill o'r byd.
Fel mae pawb yn gwybod, mae'n bwysicach nag erioed y dyddiau yma i gael gwybodaeth ehangach o'r diwydiant amaethyddol ac mae'n wych gweld cyfleoedd fel hyn ar gael i ffermwyr ifanc Cymru.
Byddwn yn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb i sicrhau eu bod yn ymgeisio.
Mae'r ysgoloriaeth, sy'n derbyn rhodd flynyddol gan Ymddiriedolaeth Elusennol NFU Mutual, yn chwilio am ymgeiswyr sy'n ystyried teithio yn y DU, Ewrop neu ymhellach. Os ydych chi o dan 30 oed ac yn dymuno cael cymorth ariannol i deithio, cysylltwch ag NFU Cymru i gael ffurflen gais – hyd yn oed os ydych chi eisoes wedi derbyn cefnogaeth gan ysgoloriaeth neu gronfa arall.
Meddai Peter Howells, Cynghorydd Sirol NFU Cymru: “Lansiwyd cronfa'r ysgoloriaeth ym 1984 er cof am y diweddar Gareth Raw Rees MBE o Geredigion a oedd bob amser yn frwd a llawn bwrlwm wrth hybu buddiannau pobl ifanc ym maes ffermio a chefn gwlad. Roedd yn credu'n gryf ym manteision teithio er mwyn ehangu gorwelion a darparu addysg sy’n rhoi mwy o foddhad."
Dywedodd Trevor Lloyd, Cadeirydd Bwrdd Ymgynghorol NFU Mutual yng Nghymru: “Gyda diwydiant amaethyddol sy'n newid mor gyflym y dyddiau hyn, mae'n hollbwysig bod ein ffermwyr ifanc yn cael persbectif ehangach i'w helpu i ffermio'n llwyddiannus. Dyna pam mae NFU Mutual yn gefnogwr brwd o'r cynllun ysgoloriaeth. Dros y blynyddoedd, rydym wedi derbyn ceisiadau eithriadol gan bobl ifanc hynod alluog a mentrus ac wedi gallu cefnogi eu hymdrechion wrth ymweld a dysgu am bob math o dechnegau amaethyddol sy'n cael eu defnyddio ledled y byd."
Dydd Gwener 23 Mehefin 2023 yw'r dyddiad cau ar gyfer ceisiadau a bydd enwau’r enillwyr yn cael eu cyhoeddi ddydd Mawrth y Sioe Fawr eleni.
