Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales is urging his constituents to consider the benefits of becoming blood donors.
Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative member of the Welsh Parliament is keen to publicise the importance of donating blood to help detect cancer at an early stage and to help others who require blood transfusions.
He said:
I recently had an email from one of my constituents in Wrexham, who has thankfully recovered from prostrate cancer. He pointed out that the disease was only detected because he was a blood donor.
In his email, Don Wraight, Clay Golf Club captain and regular blood donor said his blood was analysed after his 65th donation and he was advised to contact his GP to have it checked and he required chemo and radio therapy.
Fortunately Mr Wraight’s treatment was successful but it really does highlight how important it could be for your health to become a blood donor.
Sam added:
I am happy to raise awareness of this and back any campaign to encourage more people to volunteer and be aware of the benefits of becoming a blood donor.
It is well worth donating as not only do you get a check on your blood and your health but you are also helping others who need transfusions.
It’s important that we raise awareness of the severity of cancer to people across Wales in order to research more into the possible treatments that could be used to help those positively diagnosed and to treat patients with what is currently available in our hospitals.
I am delighted to see Mr Wraight has made a full recovery and congratulate him and his fellow members for holding a very successful charity golf event.”
Mr Wraight is a member of the Wrexham Prostrate Cancer Support Group who recently raised over £10,000 for specialist cancer equipment at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital by holding a golf day and silent auction.
Sam Rowlands AS yn amlygu pwysigrwydd rhoi gwaed
Mae Sam Rowlands, AS dros Ogledd Cymru, yn annog ei etholwyr i ystyried manteision bod yn rhoddwyr gwaed.
Mae Mr Rowlands, aelod o’r Senedd dros y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig, yn awyddus i roi cyhoeddusrwydd i bwysigrwydd rhoi gwaed i helpu i ganfod canser yn gynnar a helpu eraill sydd angen trallwysiadau gwaed.
Meddai:
Yn ddiweddar derbyniais e-bost gan un o fy etholwyr yn Wrecsam, sydd wedi gwella o ganser y prostad diolch byth. Dywedodd mai dim ond oherwydd ei fod yn rhoi gwaed y cafodd y clefyd ei ganfod.
Yn ei e-bost, dywed Don Wraight, capten Clwb Golff Clay, sy’n rhoi gwaed yn rheolaidd fod ei waed wedi’i ddadansoddi ar ôl iddo roi am y 65ain tro. Cafodd gyngor i gysylltu â’i feddyg teulu i archwilio’r sefyllfa ac roedd angen cemotherapi a radiotherapi arno.
Yn ffodus, roedd triniaeth Mr Wraight yn llwyddiannus ond mae wir yn dangos pa mor bwysig y gallai bod yn rhoddwr gwaed fod er mwyn eich iechyd chi.
Ychwanegodd Sam:
Rwy’n hapus i godi ymwybyddiaeth o hyn a chefnogi unrhyw ymgyrch i annog mwy o bobl i wirfoddoli a bod yn ymwybodol o fanteision rhoi gwaed.
Mae’n wir werth rhoi gwaed gan eich bod chi’n gallu cael archwiliad o’ch gwaed a’ch iechyd a helpu eraill sydd angen trallwysiadau yr un pryd.
Mae’n bwysig ein bod ni’n codi ymwybyddiaeth o ddifrifoldeb canser i bobl ledled Cymru er mwyn ymchwilio mwy i driniaethau posibl y gellid eu defnyddio i helpu’r rhai sy’n cael diagnosis ac i drin cleifion gyda’r hyn sydd gennym yn ein hysbytai ar hyn o bryd.
Rwy’n falch iawn o glywed bod Mr Wraight wedi cael adferiad llwyr ac yn ei longyfarch ef a’i gyd-aelodau am gynnal digwyddiad golff elusennol llwyddiannus iawn.
Mae Mr Wraight yn aelod o Grŵp Cymorth Canser y Prostad Wrecsam a gododd dros £10,000 yn ddiweddar ar gyfer cyfarpar canser arbenigol yn Ysbyty Maelor Wrecsam drwy gynnal diwrnod golff ac ocsiwn tawel.
