Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is supporting calls for more people in Wrexham, to open their homes to those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Local Government said:
I am sure everyone continues to see the harrowing scenes from Ukraine on the news and like me, can’t believe what is happening over there. My heart goes out to everyone involved in the conflict.
I am pleased by the way local authorities have responded and praise must also go to volunteers who have offered to house families from Ukraine, however, there is still a need for more accommodation.
A recent call has gone out for more hosts in Wrexham and I would urge anyone interested and who can offer a place to stay to find out more about how they can become involved.
As a host, you will get a £500 a month thank you payment as well as other free support and training.
Most Ukrainians in Wales will now have spent some time here, following the full scale invasion by Russia in February 2022, and many will either be in education and employment. Most will have started to settle into Welsh life making valuable contributions to our communities.
Local authorities offer help and support throughout the hosting period and will be able to offer more information about what is available in your area.
They will always be on call to resolve any issues or in the unlikely scenario that a hosting arrangement breaks down.
Housing Justice Cymru offer a helpline for hosts and runs online sessions for those considering hosting to offer them more information on what’s involved, and whether this is right for them.

Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros ranbarth y gogledd, yn cefnogi galwadau ar i fwy o bobl yn Wrecsam agor eu cartrefi i'r rhai sy'n ffoi rhag y rhyfel yn Wcráin.
Dywedodd Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Lywodraeth Leol:
Dwi'n siŵr fod pawb yn parhau i weld y golygfeydd dirdynnol o Wcráin ar y newyddion ac, fel fi, yn methu credu'r hyn sy'n digwydd draw yno. Mae fy nghalon yn gwaedu dros bawb sydd yng nghanol y gwrthdaro.
Dwi'n falch o'r ffordd mae awdurdodau lleol wedi ymateb a rhaid canmol yr holl wirfoddolwyr sydd wedi cynnig llety i deuluoedd o Wcráin - ond mae angen llawer mwy o hyd.
Mae galwad diweddar ar i fwy o bobl yn Wrecsam gynnig cartref, a byddwn yn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb ac sy'n gallu cynnig lle ddysgu mwy am sut mae cymryd rhan.
Fel gwesteiwr, cewch £500 y mis o ddiolch yn ogystal â chefnogaeth a hyfforddiant arall am ddim.
Bydd y rhan fwyaf o bobl Wcráin sydd yng Nghymru wedi treulio peth amser yma bellach, ar ôl i Rwsia ymosod ar y wlad ym mis Chwefror 2022, a bydd llawer naill ai mewn addysg neu yn y byd gwaith. Bydd y rhan fwyaf wedi dechrau setlo i fywyd yng Nghymru gan wneud cyfraniadau gwerthfawr i'n cymunedau.
Mae awdurdodau lleol yn cynnig cymorth a chefnogaeth gydol y cyfnod lletya, a byddant yn gallu cynnig rhagor o wybodaeth am yr hyn sydd ar gael yn eich ardal chi.
Byddant bob amser ar alwad i ddatrys unrhyw broblemau neu yn y sefyllfa annisgwyl pan fydd trefniadau lletya yn mynd ar chwâl.
