Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is delighted to have national backing for his Outdoor Education Bill (Wales).
Mr Rowland’s, Shadow Minister for Local Government, was commenting after the Outward Bound Trust launched a campaign supporting his Bill.
He said:
I am absolutely delighted that such a high profile movement is backing my Bill which was supported by fellow members and is currently going through Welsh Parliament.
As everyone knows, I passionately believe in outdoor education for all our young people yet sadly, too many of them do not get the opportunity to participate.
I have an aspiration that all children in Wales should be given access to an Outdoor Education residential visit at least once in their school career, regardless of where they live and their family background and that is why I proposed the Outdoor Education (Wales) Bill.
Its aim is to move residential outdoor education from an enrichment activity to an entitlement within Wales’ curriculum.
The Outward Bound Trust supports the proposed Outdoor Education Bills in Scotland, Wales and England so every child can experience an outdoor residential before they leave school.
They have launched a #LetUsOut campaign and urging people to support them and join the movement so that outdoor residentials to be part of the school curriculum, so no young person is left behind.
Sam Rowland’s Outdoor Education Bill, if it becomes law will require local authorities to ensure all young people receiving maintained education are provided with the opportunity to experience residential outdoor education at some stage during their school years.
It will also make it a requirement for the Welsh Government to provide funding to schools to enable them to do so.
Sam Rowlands AS yn falch o gael cefnogaeth i addysg awyr agored
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn falch iawn o gael cefnogaeth genedlaethol i’w Fil Addysg Awyr Agored (Cymru).
Roedd Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Llywodraeth Leol yr Wrthblaid, yn siarad ar ôl i’r Outward Bound Trust lansio ymgyrch yn cefnogi ei Fil.
Dywedodd:
Rwy’n hynod falch bod mudiad mor uchel ei broffil yn cefnogi fy Mesur, sydd wedi cael ei gefnogi gan fy nghyd-aelodau ac sydd ar ei ffordd drwy Senedd Cymru ar hyn o bryd.
Fel y gŵyr pawb, rwy’n credu’n angerddol mewn addysg awyr agored i’n holl bobl ifanc ond yn anffodus, mae yna ormod sydd ddim yn cael y cyfle i gymryd rhan.
Rwy’n dyheu fod pob plentyn yng Nghymru yn cael y cyfle i fynd ar ymweliad preswyl Addysg Awyr Agored o leiaf unwaith yn ystod eu gyrfa ysgol, waeth ble maen nhw’n byw, waeth beth yw eu cefndir teuluol, a dyna pam y gwnes i gynnig Bil Addysg Awyr Agored (Cymru).
Ei nod yw symud addysg breswyl awyr agored o weithgaredd cyfoethogi i fod yn weithgaredd y mae hawl iddo fel rhan o gwricwlwm Cymru.
Mae’r Outward Bound Trust yn cefnogi’r Biliau Addysg Awyr Agored arfaethedig yng Nghymru, yr Alban a Lloegr fel bod pob plentyn yn gallu profi cwrs awyr agored preswyl cyn iddyn nhw adael yr ysgol.
Maen nhw wedi lansio ymgyrch #LetUsOut ac yn annog pobl i’w cefnogi ac ymuno â’r mudiad fel bod cyrsiau preswyl awyr agored yn dod yn rhan o’r cwricwlwm ysgol, fel nad oes unrhyw berson ifanc yn cael ei adael ar ôl.
Bydd Bil Addysg Awyr Agored Sam Rowlands, os yw’n dod yn gyfraith, yn ei gwneud yn ofynnol i awdurdodau lleol sicrhau bod pob person ifanc sy’n derbyn addysg a gynhelir yn cael y cyfle i brofi addysg awyr agored breswyl ar ryw adeg yn ystod eu cyfnod yn yr ysgol.
Bydd hefyd yn ei gwneud yn ofynnol i Lywodraeth Cymru ddarparu cyllid i ysgolion i’w galluogi i wneud hynny.
