Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is demanding urgent answers after it was revealed that over £250,000 of taxpayers money has been spent on temporary traffic lights in the Abergele area of North Wales.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Local Government has asked Welsh Government why the two sets of lights are still in place. He said:
We all know that Welsh Government can’t be trusted to look after your money but this really is the thin end of the wedge.
They have blown £250,000 of tax payers’ money on temporary traffic lights on the bridge over the A55 at Primrose Hill, St George, Abergele, and the Sea Road bridge over the A55.
The lights at Primrose Hill cover a distance of about 20 meters and manage a width of about one meter and have been there for four years. While the ones in Sea Road have been there since 2010.
People seeing this are certainly not being re-assured that every measure is being taken to cut down on this sort of waste and that public services are properly supported.
Darren Millar, MS for Clwyd West said:
The Welsh Government are frittering taxpayers’ money away on temporary measures instead of getting on with the job.
Ministers must get a grip of this wasteful spending and give the green light to the repairs which are necessary as soon as possible.
Sam Rowlands AS yn pwyso’n drwm ar Brif Weinidog Cymru dros gost goleuadau traffig dros dro yn Abergele
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn mynnu atebion brys wedi iddi ddatgelu bod dros £250,000 o arian trethdalwyr wedi ei wario ar oleuadau traffig dros dro yn ardal Abergele.
Mae Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Llywodraeth Leol yr Wrthblaid, wedi gofyn i Lywodraeth Cymru pam mae’r ddwy set o oleuadau yn dal i fod yn eu lle. Dywedodd:
Rydyn ni i gyd yn gwybod na ellir ymddiried yn Llywodraeth Cymru i ofalu am eich arian ond mae hyn yn arwydd o bethau gwaeth i ddod.
Maen nhw wedi gwario £250,000 o arian trethdalwyr ar oleuadau traffig dros dro ar y bont dros yr A55 yn Primrose Hill, Llansansiôr, Abergele, a phont Ffordd y Môr dros yr A55.
Mae’r goleuadau yn Primrose Hill yn cwmpasu pellter o tua 20 metr ac yn rheoli parth o tua un metr o led, ac maen nhw wedi bod yno ers pedair blynedd, tra bod y rhai ar Ffordd y Môr wedi bod yno ers 2010.
Yn sicr, nid yw pobl sy’n gweld hyn yn teimlo bod pob cam yn cael ei gymryd i gael gwared ar y math hwn o wastraff a bod gwasanaethau cyhoeddus yn cael eu cefnogi’n iawn.
Dywedodd Darren Millar, AS Gorllewin Clwyd:
Mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn afradu arian trethdalwyr ar fesurau dros dro yn hytrach na gwneud y gwaith.
Rhaid i weinidogion fynd i’r afael â’r gwariant gwastraffus hwn a chymeradwyo’r gwaith atgyweirio sydd ei angen cyn gynted â phosib.
