Sam Rowlands MS has joined the Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales team at the Senedd to mark the charity’s annual Coffee Morning fundraising event.
The event also offered an opportunity to find out more about how the coronavirus pandemic continues to impact on people living with cancer, as well as worrying new research from the charity on the gap in Wales’ specialist cancer nursing workforce.
Macmillan’s annual Coffee Morning usually sees millions of pounds donated to help support people affected by cancer.
The money raised helps fund Macmillan services to make sure people with cancer can get the physical, emotional and financial support they need.
Like so many charities, Macmillan has seen a huge fall in its fundraising income as a direct result of the ongoing impact of Covid-19.
The charity’s flagship Coffee Morning – which is one of the UK’s longest-running fundraising events – is faced with a staggering 71% income drop for the second year running (£20m).
Speaking about their support for the annual fundraising event, Sam Rowlands MS said:
Macmillan, alongside our NHS and other partners, works tirelessly to do whatever it takes for people with cancer. They are doing so at a time when the disruption caused by Covid-19 means demand for the charity’s services is high, while its income is down.
I’m very proud to help support Macmillan’s coffee morning, and to help let people know that this important fundraising event is still going ahead. I would encourage anyone to get involved, and to organise or contribute to a local coffee morning in the way that suits them best.
Richard Pugh, Head of Services for Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales, said:
We would like to offer Sam a heartfelt thanks for his support.
More than 98% of Macmillan’s funding comes directly from donations, and thousands of people could miss out on vital care from our famous nurses without the public's continued support for our Coffee Morning fundraiser.
It’s no exaggeration to say Macmillan and people with cancer have never needed the public’s help more than we do right now. There is no single or right way to hold a coffee morning – it can be whatever you make it, and it can be held when suits you best. We really hope people will pull out all the stops to do just that.
Macmillan’s Coffee Morning this year falls on 24 September but local events can be held throughout the year.

Sam Rowlands AS yn codi ei gwpan i gefnogi bore coffi Macmillan
Mae Sam Rowlands AS wedi ymuno â thîm Chymorth Canser Macmillan yng Nghymru yn y Senedd i noddi digwyddiad codi arian Bore Coffi blynyddol yr elusen.
Mae’r digwyddiad hefyd yn gyfle i ddysgu mwy am sut mae’r pandemig coronafeirws yn parhau i effeithio ar bobl sy’n byw gyda chanser, a chlywed am ymchwil newydd sy’n peri gofid gan yr elusen sy’n nodi’r bwlch yn y gweithlu nyrsio canser arbenigol yng Nghymru.
Fel arfer mae miliynau o bunnoedd yn dod i’r coffrau drwy Fore Coffi blynyddol Macmillan sy’n helpu i gynorthwyo pobl sydd wedi’u heffeithio gan ganser.
Mae’r arian sy’n cael ei godi yn helpu i gyllido gwasanaethau Macmillan i sicrhau bod pobl â chanser yn gallu cael gafael ar y cymorth corfforol, emosiynol ac ariannol sydd ei angen arnyn nhw.
Fel cymaint o elusennau eraill, mae Macmillan wedi gweld gostyngiad enfawr yn ei incwm codi arian o ganlyniad uniongyrchol i effaith barhaus Covid-19.
Mae Bore Coffi enwog yr elusen - sef un o’r digwyddiadau codi arian mwyaf hirhoedlog yn y DU - yn wynebu gostyngiad enfawr o 71% am yr ail flwyddyn yn olynol (£20 miliwn).
Wrth siarad am eu cefnogaeth i’r digwyddiad codi arian blynyddol, dywedodd Sam Rowlands AS:
Mae Macmillan, law yn llaw â’r GIG a phartneriaid eraill, yn gweithio’n ddiflino i wneud popeth posib dros bobl â chanser. Maen nhw’n gwneud hyn ar adeg pan fo’r tarfu a achoswyd gan Covid-19 yn golygu bod y galw am wasanaethau’r elusen yn uchel, a’i incwm yn isel.
Rwy’n falch iawn o helpu i gefnogi bore coffi Macmillan, ac i helpu i sôn wrth bobl bod y digwyddiad codi arian pwysig hwn yn dal i fynd rhagddo. Byddwn yn annog pawb i gymryd rhan, a threfnu neu gyfrannu at fore coffi lleol mewn ffordd sy’n gyfleus iddyn nhw.
Meddai Richard Pugh, Pennaeth Gwasanaethau Cymorth Canser Macmillan yng Nghymru
Hoffem ddiolch o galon i Sam am ei gefnogaeth.
Mae mwy na 98% o gyllid Macmillan yn dod yn uniongyrchol o roddion, a gallai miloedd o bobl golli’r cyfle i gael gofal hanfodol gan ein nyrsys enwog heb gefnogaeth barhaus y cyhoedd i’n Boreau Coffi i godi arian.
Nid gor-ddweud yw dweud bod angen cymorth y cyhoedd nawr yn fwy nag erioed ar Macmillan a’r sawl sydd â chanser. Does dim un ffordd unigol neu gywir o gynnal bore coffi - gall fod yn unrhyw beth y dymunwch, a gallwch ei gynnal ar amser sy’n gyfleus i chi. Gobeithio’n fawr y bydd pobl yn gwneud popeth o fewn eu gallu i wneud hynny.
Eleni, mae Bore Coffi Macmillan ar 24 Medi ond gellir cynnal digwyddiadau lleol gydol y flwyddyn.
Sut bynnag rydych chi’n dewis cynnal eich Bore Coffi Macmillan, ewch i https://coffee.macmillan.org.uk am syniadau, gemau ac awgrymiadau pobi.
