Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales is backing a campaign to highlight the importance of cervical screening.
Mr Rowlands is supporting Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2022 which takes place from January 17-23.
He said:
Screening is vitally important and I am pleased to back such a worthwhile campaign.
It is absolutely essential we continue to raise awareness of this disease as all women, and young ones in particular, need to understand that cervical cancer can be prevented by detection of the early symptoms.
The Welsh Government recently announced that they want to change how regularly women have cervical cancer checks, with women aged 25-50 having to wait five rather than three years for checks. This is a concerning decision, the consequences of which need to be properly understood.
I am urging my constituents to support Cervical Cancer Prevention Week and help to raise awareness of this disease.
On average 3,197 cases of cervical cancer are discovered each year with 854 deaths between 2016-2018, with only 51% surviving this type of cancer for more than 10 years and according to Cancer Research UK 99.8% of cervical cancer cases are preventable.
Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi Wythnos Atal Canser Ceg y Groth
Mae Sam Rowlands, AS dros Ogledd Cymru, yn cefnogi ymgyrch i dynnu sylw ar bwysigrwydd sgrinio serfigol.
Mae Mr Rowlands yn cefnogi Wythnos Atal Canser Ceg y Groth 2022 a gynhelir 17-23 Ionawr.
Meddai:
Mae sgrinio yn hollbwysig ac rwy’n falch o allu cefnogi ymgyrch gwerth chweil fel hon.
Mae’n gwbl hanfodol ein bod yn parhau i godi ymwybyddiaeth o’r clefyd hwn gan fod angen i bob menyw, yn enwedig menywod ifanc, ddeall y gellir atal canser ceg y groth drwy ddatgelu’r symptomau cynnar.
Yn ddiweddar, cyhoeddodd Llywodraeth Cymru ei bod am newid pa mor rheolaidd y mae menywod yn cael eu harchwilio am ganser ceg y groth, gyda menywod 25-50 yn aml yn gorfod aros am bum mlynedd yn hytrach na thair blynedd am archwiliadau. Mae hwn yn benderfyniad sy’n peri gofid, ac mae angen deall y canlyniadau yn iawn.
Rwy’n erfyn ar fy etholwyr i gefnogi Wythnos Atal Canser Ceg y Groth a helpu i godi ymwybyddiaeth o’r clefyd hwn.
Ar gyfartaledd, mae 3,197 achos o ganser ceg y groth bob blwyddyn gyda 854 marwolaeth rhwng 2016-2018, gyda dim ond 51% yn goroesi’r math hwn o ganser am fwy na 10 mlynedd ac yn ôl Cancer Research UK, gellid atal 99.8% o achosion o ganser ceg y groth.
