Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is calling on his constituents to help make a big difference in a child’s life.
He is backing a call to encourage more people to become foster carers in Wrexham.
He said:
I am a great supporter of any campaigns to raise awareness of the need for more foster carers and families.
It is sad to say but there are so many children and young people who need a safe place to call home and that is why it is so important that people come forward to become foster parents.
I would urge anyone interested to get in touch and find out more about fostering and how they can help to make a big difference to a child’s life.
There are more than 7,000 children in the care system in Wales, but only 3,800 foster families.
In Wrexham there are 304 children who are looked after by the local authority and while they have a devoted team of 39 foster carers and 51 connected carers, they are only able to provide essential support for 120 children and young people.
Worryingly, as the number of children who are looked after continues to rise annually, the approval of new foster carers is on the decline. Therefore, the council is facing the pressing challenge of keeping pace with the growing demand and urgently require 30 new foster carers each year for the next two years.
For more information about fostering, or to make an enquiry, visit the Foster Wales Wrexham website or call 01978 295366 to speak to one of the recruitment team.

Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi galwadau am fwy o ofalwyr maeth yn Wrecsam
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn galw ar ei etholwyr i helpu i wneud gwahaniaeth mawr i fywydau plant.
Mae'n cefnogi galwad i annog mwy o bobl i ddod yn ofalwyr maeth yn Wrecsam.
Meddai:
Rwy'n gefnogwr brwd o unrhyw ymgyrch i godi ymwybyddiaeth o'r angen am fwy o ofalwyr maeth a theuluoedd.
Mae'n drist gweld cymaint o blant a phobl ifanc sydd angen lle diogel i'w alw'n gartref, a dyna pam mae mor bwysig bod pobl yn dod ymlaen i fod yn rhieni maeth.
Byddwn yn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb i gysylltu a chael rhagor o wybodaeth am faethu a sut y gallan nhw helpu i wneud gwahaniaeth mawr i fywyd plentyn.
Mae dros 7,000 o blant yn y system ofal yng Nghymru, ond dim ond 3,800 o deuluoedd maeth.
Yn Wrecsam mae 304 o blant yn derbyn gofal gan yr awdurdod lleol ac er bod ganddyn nhw dîm ymroddedig o 39 o ofalwyr maeth a 51 o ofalwyr cyswllt, dim ond i 120 o blant a phobl ifanc y gallant ddarparu cymorth hanfodol.
Mae nifer y plant sy'n derbyn gofal yn parhau i gynyddu bob blwyddyn, gyda’r gofalwyr maeth newydd yn disgyn ac mae hynny’n destun pryder. Felly, mae'r cyngor yn wynebu'r her enfawr o gadw i fyny â'r galw cynyddol ac mae angen 30 o ofalwyr maeth newydd ar frys bob blwyddyn am y ddwy flynedd nesaf.
Am ragor o wybodaeth am faethu, neu i wneud ymholiad, ewch i wefan Maethu Cymru Wrecsam neu ffoniwch 01978 295366 i siarad ag un o'r tîm recriwtio.
