Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is backing an initiative calling on farmers to share their day to day life in the classroom.
Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of the farming and agricultural industry is supporting NFU Cymru’s appeal for farmers to sign up to become a Farmers for Schools Ambassador.
He said:
Everybody knows how passionate I am about supporting the work of our hard working farmers and I think it is a great idea for them to be able to explain what they actually do to our children.
It is vital that young people, who are the consumers of tomorrow learn and understand about farming, growing crops and just where our food comes from.
I fully support this initiative and urge anyone who is interested in talking about how they go about their daily lives on a farm to apply to become a Schools Ambassador.
As part of the NFU Cymru’s Farmers for Schools programme, members are being asked to deliver a 30 to 45-minute assembly in local secondary schools about day-to-day life on their farm.
This will give them the chance to showcase the value of Welsh farming and correct any myths or misconceptions, as well as answer questions from students.
It will also show them how farmers are addressing climate change, harnessing technology, looking after the environment, and producing food to world-leading standards.
More than 200 fully trained Farmers for Schools Ambassadors have already been trained up around Britain and started to visit schools around the country.
Training to give you the tools to deliver and engaging and thought provoking presentation for assembly is provided with several dates planned over the next few months.
Typically, the ambassadors will work together in pairs to deliver two assemblies over the course of the academic year with the NFU also cover any travel expenses and the cost of a DBS check.
The current training dates are: Jubilee Hall, Malpas, Cheshire, SY14 8NN – October 17 2023; NFU Stoneleigh Headquarters, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, CV8 2TZ – October 23 2023 and NFU Westminster, 18 Smith Square, Westminster, SW1P 3HZ – October 24 2023.

Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi galwad undeb ffermio am lysgenhadon ysgolion
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, yn cefnogi menter sy'n galw ar ffermwyr i rannu eu bywyd bob dydd yn yr ystafell ddosbarth.
Mae Mr Rowlands, un o gefnogwyr brwd y diwydiant amaeth, yn cefnogi apêl NFU Cymru i ffermwyr gofrestru i fod yn Llysgennad Ffermwyr ar gyfer Ysgolion.
Meddai:
Mae pawb yn gwybod pa mor angerddol ydw i am gefnogi gwaith ein ffermwyr gweithgar a dwi'n credu ei fod yn syniad gwych iddyn nhw allu esbonio'r hyn maen nhw'n ei wneud i'n plant.
Mae'n hanfodol bod pobl ifanc, defnyddwyr y dyfodol, yn deall ac yn dysgu am ffermio, tyfu cnydau ac o ble y daw ein bwyd.
Dwi'n cefnogi'r fenter hon i’r carn ac yn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb mewn siarad am eu bywyd bod dydd ar y fferm i wneud cais i fod yn Llysgennad Ysgolion.
Fel rhan o raglen 'Ffermwyr i Ysgolion' NFU Cymru, gofynnir i aelodau ddarparu sesiwn 30 i 45 munud mewn ysgolion uwchradd lleol am fywyd bob dydd ar eu fferm.
Bydd hyn yn rhoi cyfle iddyn nhw arddangos gwerth ffermio yng Nghymru a chywiro unrhyw fythau neu gamargraffiadau, yn ogystal ag ateb cwestiynau gan fyfyrwyr.
Bydd yn dangos iddyn nhw hefyd sut mae ffermwyr yn mynd i'r afael â newid hinsawdd, yn harneisio technoleg, yn gofalu am yr amgylchedd, ac yn cynhyrchu bwyd i safonau gyda’r gorau yn y byd.
Mae mwy na 200 o Lysgenhadon Ffermwyr ar gyfer Ysgolion eisoes wedi eu hyfforddi'n llawn ledled gwledydd Prydain ac wedi dechrau ymweld ag ysgolion.
Byddwch yn cael hyfforddiant i roi cyflwyniad diddorol sy'n ysgogi'r meddwl mewn gwasanaeth ysgol, gyda sawl dyddiad wedi'u trefnu dros y misoedd nesaf.
Fel arfer, bydd y llysgenhadon yn gweithio gyda'i gilydd mewn parau i ddarparu dau wasanaeth ysgol yn ystod y flwyddyn academaidd gyda'r NFU yn talu am unrhyw gostau teithio a chost gwiriad y Gwasanaeth Datgelu a Gwahardd hefyd.
Dyma’r dyddiadau hyfforddi presennol: Jubilee Hall, Malpas, Swydd Gaer, SY14 8NN – 17 Hydref 2023; Pencadlys NFU Stoneleigh, Stoneleigh Park, Swydd Warwick, CV8 2TZ – 23 Hydref 2023 ac NFU San Steffan, 18 Smith Square, Westminster, SW1P 3HZ – 24 Hydref 2023.
