Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, backs Holyhead as a destination for cruise ships.
Mr Rowlands, Chair of the Senedd’s Cross-Party Group on Tourism was commenting after recently being invited to visit a luxury cruise ship berthed in the port.
He said:
I was delighted to have the opportunity to look around the luxurious Regent Seven Seas Navigator at Holyhead and speak to the captain and representatives from the Cruise Line International Association.
It was really good to hear that UK cruises are incredibly popular with US and German travellers as well as people from the UK wanting to cruise around Britain.
As a great supporter of promoting tourism in North Wales I was particularly glad to be told that cruises which include a stopover at Holyhead were increasing, which is great for the port, local jobs and the economy.
Holyhead is ideally suited to cruise ships as it has 24 hour deep water and is perfectly placed for people to visit the many different attractions we have in North Wales.
I just hope that the Welsh Government makes sure that the potential of Holyhead Port is fully realised.
The Regent Seven Seas Navigator was berthed in the port overnight as part of a 10 day cruise from Amsterdam to Southampton.
Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi dyfodol porthladd yn y Gogledd
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, yn cefnogi Caergybi fel cyrchfan ar gyfer llongau mordeithio.
Roedd Mr Rowlands, Cadeirydd Grŵp Trawsbleidiol y Senedd ar Dwristiaeth yn gwneud sylwadau ar ôl cael ei wahodd yn ddiweddar i ymweld â llong fordeithio foethus a oedd wedi’i hangori yn y porthladd.
Meddai:
Roeddwn i’n falch iawn o gael y cyfle i edrych o gwmpas llong foethus y Regent Seven Seas Navigator yng Nghaergybi a siarad â'r capten a chynrychiolwyr o Gymdeithas Ryngwladol Cruise Line.
Roedd hi’n dda iawn cael clywed bod mordeithiau o'r DU yn hynod boblogaidd gyda theithwyr o'r Unol Daleithiau a'r Almaen yn ogystal â phobl o'r DU sydd eisiau mordeithio o amgylch Prydain.
Fel cefnogwr mawr i dwristiaeth yn y Gogledd, roeddwn i’n arbennig o falch o gael gwybod bod mordeithiau sy’n dewis aros yng Nghaergybi yn cynyddu, sy'n wych i'r porthladd, i swyddi lleol ac i'r economi.
Mae Caergybi yn ddelfrydol ar gyfer llongau mordeithio gan fod yno ddŵr dwfn 24 awr ac mae mewn lle perffaith i bobl ymweld â'r atyniadau niferus sydd gennym yn y Gogledd.
Gobeithio bod Llywodraeth Cymru yn gwneud yn siŵr bod potensial Porthladd Caergybi yn cael ei wireddu'n llawn.
Cafodd y Regent Seven Seas Navigator ei hangori yn y porthladd dros nos fel rhan o fordaith 10 diwrnod o Amsterdam i Southampton.
