Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is backing a campaign to raise awareness of dementia.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Health and a keen supporter of Dementia UK said:
I am delighted to hear that Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is helping to raise awareness of dementia and the support available for those affected.
This week’s campaign, which runs until May 19, will see information about dementia at stalls in hospitals in North Wales so that staff, patients and visitors can learn more about the illness.
I am also pleased to see they will be highlighting the benefits of ‘The Herbet Protocol’, a scheme which helps police find missing people with dementia quicker and safely.
As an MS for North Wales I am always happy to support and help to highlight this illness and continue to raise awareness with Welsh Parliament.
The Herbert Protocol is a form that carers, family or friends of a vulnerable person, or the person themselves can fill in. It contains a list of information to help the police in their search, if the person goes missing.
With approximately 100 people living with dementia reported missing to North Wales Police every year, we are keen to raise awareness of the benefits of the Herbert Protocol in communities across the region. You can find further information on the Herbert Protocol on the North Wales Police website.
Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi Wythnos Genedlaethol Gweithredu ar Dementia
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn cefnogi ymgyrch i godi ymwybyddiaeth o ddementia.
Meddai Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Iechyd yr Wrthblaid ac un o gefnogwyr brwd Dementia UK:
Rwy'n falch iawn o glywed bod Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr yn helpu i godi ymwybyddiaeth o ddementia a'r gefnogaeth sydd ar gael i'r rhai sydd wedi’u heffeithio.
Bydd ymgyrch yr wythnos hon, sy'n rhedeg tan 19 Mai, yn gweld gwybodaeth am ddementia mewn stondinau mewn ysbytai yng Ngogledd Cymru fel bod staff, cleifion ac ymwelwyr yn gallu dysgu mwy am y salwch.
Rwyf hefyd yn falch o weld y byddant yn tynnu sylw at fanteision 'Protocol Herbet', cynllun sy'n helpu'r heddlu i ddod o hyd i bobl sydd â dementia ac ar goll yn gyflymach ac yn ddiogel.
Fel AS dros Ogledd Cymru, rwyf bob amser yn hapus i gefnogi a helpu i dynnu sylw at y salwch hwn a pharhau i godi ymwybyddiaeth yn y Senedd.
Gyda thua 100 o bobl sy'n byw gyda dementia yn mynd ar goll yn ardal Heddlu Gogledd Cymru bob blwyddyn, rydyn ni’n awyddus i godi ymwybyddiaeth o fanteision Protocol Herbert mewn cymunedau ledled y rhanbarth. Gallwch ddod o hyd i ragor o wybodaeth am Brotocol Herbert ar wefan Heddlu Gogledd Cymru.
