Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is delighted work has started on a new cancer support centre in North Wales.
This week Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and the Steve Morgan Foundation announced that work has started on building a Maggie's cancer support centre in the grounds of Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Health Minister and a keen supporter of Maggies’s Centres said:
I am really pleased to see work starting on this venture as it is very important that we continue to support people living with cancer in North Wales.
We already have a dedicated cancer centre based on the Glan Clwyd Hospital site and I welcome any further additions to provide free support and help and advice for my constituents suffering from this illness.
A big thank-you must also go to the Steve Morgan Foundation for its generosity as it will be providing the funding for the venture after already commissioning, designing and building a Maggie’s Centre in the grounds of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.
Maggie’s Centre has been designed, commissioned and funded by the Steve Morgan Foundation and is planned to open in 2025 and construction began on July 11.
The centre’s expert staff will support people living with cancer, as well as family and friends, from across the whole region - including Bangor and Wrexham.
The North Wales NHS Cancer Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital sees approximately 5,000 people newly diagnosed with cancer every year.
The Steve Morgan Foundation has provided £4m to design, commission and build the centre in North Wales. This is the second Maggie’s centre to be designed, commissioned and built by the Steve Morgan Foundation.
Dame Laura Lee, Chief Executive at Maggie’s said:
I am greatly looking forward to working closely with the Steve Morgan Foundation and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, to ensure the people of North Wales have the support which has already been making such a difference to people’s lives in other parts of Wales for 13 years.
Carol Shillabeer, the Health Board's CEO, said:
Working closely with the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre, also based at Glan Clwyd Hospital, this new facility will extend and enhance the support we offer to people with cancer and their families.

Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi canolfan newydd Maggie's yn y Gogledd
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Ogledd Cymru, wrth ei bodd o weld bod gwaith wedi dechrau ar ganolfan cymorth canser newydd yn y Gogledd.
Yr wythnos hon cyhoeddodd Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr a Sefydliad Steve Morgan bod y gwaith wedi cychwyn i adeiladu canolfan cymorth canser Maggie newydd ar dir Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan.
Dywedodd Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Iechyd yr Wrthblaid a chefnogwr brwd i ganolfannau Maggie's:
Dwi'n falch iawn o weld gwaith yn dechrau ar y fenter hon gan ei bod hi'n hollbwysig ein bod ni'n parhau i gefnogi pobl sy'n byw gyda chanser yma yn y Gogledd.
Mae gennym ni ganolfan ganser bwrpasol eisoes ar safle Ysbyty Glan Clwyd ac rwy'n croesawu unrhyw ychwanegiadau pellach i ddarparu cymorth, cefnogaeth a chyngor am ddim i'm hetholwyr sy'n dioddef o'r salwch hwn.
Hefyd, rhaid diolch o galon i Sefydliad Steve Morgan am ei haelioni gan y bydd yn darparu'r cyllid ar gyfer y fenter ar ôl comisiynu, dylunio ac adeiladu Canolfan Maggie's ar dir Canolfan Ganser Clatterbridge.
Mae Canolfan Maggie's wedi'i dylunio, ei chomisiynu a'i hariannu gan Sefydliad Steve Morgan ac mae disgwyl iddi agor yn 2025. Fe ddechreuodd y gwaith adeiladu ar 11 Gorffennaf.
Bydd staff arbenigol y ganolfan yn cefnogi pobl sy'n byw gyda chanser, yn ogystal â theulu a ffrindiau, ar hyd a lled y rhanbarth - gan gynnwys Bangor a Wrecsam.
Mae Canolfan Ganser GIG Gogledd Cymru yn Ysbyty Glan Clwyd yn gweld tua 5,000 o bobl sydd newydd gael diagnosis o ganser bob blwyddyn.
Mae Sefydliad Steve Morgan wedi darparu £4m i ddylunio, comisiynu ac adeiladu'r ganolfan yn y Gogledd. Dyma'r ail ganolfan Maggie's i gael ei dylunio, ei chomisiynu a'i hadeiladu gan Sefydliad Steve Morgan.
Dywedodd y Fonesig Laura Lee, Prif Weithredwr Maggie's:
Rwy'n edrych ymlaen at weithio'n agos gyda Sefydliad Steve Morgan a Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr, i sicrhau bod pobl Gogledd Cymru yn cael y gefnogaeth sydd eisoes wedi gwneud byd o wahaniaeth i fywydau pobl mewn rhannau eraill o Gymru ers 13 mlynedd.
Meddai Carol Shillabeer, Prif Swyddog Gweithredol y Bwrdd Iechyd:
Gan weithio'n agos gyda Chanolfan Trin Canser Gogledd Cymru, sydd hefyd wedi'i lleoli yn Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, bydd y cyfleuster newydd hwn yn ymestyn ac yn gwella'r cymorth rydyn ni'n ei gynnig i bobl â chanser a'u teuluoedd.
