Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is backing a scheme offering free football and cricket sessions for children this Summer.
Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of encouraging young people to keep active and enjoy sport, is supporting Summer holiday sports sessions in Gwersyllt.
He said:
I am a great believer in encouraging children to take part in sport and it is great to see different organisations working together to give them the opportunity to play football and cricket for free.
It is really important that during the long Summer school holidays our youngsters have plenty to keep them occupied and these sessions are definitely something worth considering.
You never know you just might be playing with a future football and cricket international and having fun at the same time.
During the Summer holidays Active Wrexham and Cricket Wales are working in partnership with North Wales Police and working with local PCSO's carrying out football and cricket sessions in Gwersyllt.
The football sessions will take place every Wednesday afternoon between 4pm-5pm followed by the cricket sessions between 5pm -6pm on Gwersyllt MUGA (behind Gwersyllt Cricket clubhouse) which is concrete so trainers are required.
Sessions will be a turn up and play and will be free with no cost involved for children between the ages of 9-14 (school years 5-9).
The aim of the sessions, which started on July 24 and will run until August 28, is to give young people the chance to engage in positive behaviour within a community setting.

Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi sesiynau chwaraeon i bobl ifanc yn Wrecsam
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, yn cefnogi cynllun sy'n cynnig sesiynau pêl-droed a chriced am ddim i blant yr haf hwn.
Mae Mr Rowlands, sy'n gefnogwr brwd o annog pobl ifanc i gadw'n heini a mwynhau chwaraeon, yn cefnogi sesiynau chwaraeon gwyliau'r haf yng Ngwersyllt.
Meddai:
Rwy'n credu'n gryf mewn annog plant i gymryd rhan mewn chwaraeon ac mae'n wych gweld gwahanol sefydliadau'n gweithio gyda'i gilydd i roi'r cyfle iddyn nhw chwarae pêl-droed a chriced am ddim.
Mae'n bwysig iawn bod gan ein pobl ifanc ddigon i'w diddanu yn ystod gwyliau hir yr haf ac mae'r sesiynau hyn yn rhywbeth gwerth ei ystyried heb os.
Wyddoch chi ddim, ond mi allech chi fod yn chwarae gyda seren pêl-droed neu griced ryngwladol y dyfodol ac yn cael hwyl ar yr un pryd.
Yn ystod gwyliau'r haf mae Wrecsam Egnïol a Chriced Cymru’n gweithio mewn partneriaeth â Heddlu Gogledd Cymru ac yn gweithio gyda Swyddogion Cymorth Cymunedol lleol yr Heddlu i gynnal sesiynau pêl-droed a chriced yng Ngwersyllt.
Bydd y sesiynau pêl-droed yn cael eu cynnal bob prynhawn Mercher rhwng 4pm a 5pm ac yna'r sesiynau criced rhwng 5pm a 6pm ar Ardal Chwaraeon Amlddefnydd Gwersyllt (y tu ôl i glwb criced Gwersyllt) sy'n goncrid felly bydd angen esgidiau rhedeg addas arnyn nhw.
Cynhelir y sesiynau fel rhai troi i fyny a chwarae a byddant yn rhad ac am ddim heb unrhyw gost i blant rhwng 9-14 oed (blynyddoedd ysgol 5-9).
Nod y sesiynau, a ddechreuodd ar 24 Gorffennaf ac a fydd yn para tan 28 Awst, yw rhoi cyfle i bobl ifanc gymryd rhan mewn ymddygiad cadarnhaol mewn lleoliad cymunedol.
