Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is backing a week-long event to highlight trees and woodlands in Wrexham.
Mr Rowlands, who has a keen interest in nature and the environment said:
I am delighted to hear about this years Wrexham Connections Week with the theme of ‘Seeking Sanctuary’ as we all know the benefits of trees and woodlands for people and wildlife.
It is great to see the Council has teamed up with Wrexham Forest Partnership for this and I am pleased to see one of the trees nominated for offering ‘Sanctuary’ is the Wrexham Sweet Chestnut, in Acton Park which is 484 years old and won the prestigious UK ’Tree of the Year’ in 2023.
I am a great supporter of trees in our community and share Wrexham County Borough Council’s view that they should be celebrated in the area and it is good to see local people being invited to nominate their own ’Sanctuary’ tree.
For Woodland Connections Week, Wrexham council have joined the Wrexham Forest Partnership to host a series of events and talks throughout the week to show people just how special they are.
Several trees around Wrexham County have been chosen to pay homage to the ‘Seeking Sanctuary’ theme. Each tree has been nominated for offering ‘Sanctuary’ in one way or another. Amongst the trees are the winner of 2023 UK Tree of the Year, the Wrexham Sweet Chestnut, a 484 year old veteran in the heart of Acton Park.
Wrexham Forests Partnership is a collective of organisations who have signed Wrexham’s Woodland Pledge as a demonstration of their commitment to increasing tree canopy cover, and protecting existing trees and woodland across the county borough.
One of the commitments is to “improve health and wellbeing through encouraging and enabling connections with nature and woodland”. The Woodland Connections Week provides opportunities for anyone across Wrexham to do just that.
Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi Wythnos Cysylltiadau Coetir
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, yn cefnogi digwyddiad wythnos o hyd i dynnu sylw at goed a choetiroedd yn Wrecsam.
Meddai Mr Rowlands, sydd â diddordeb brwd mewn natur a’r amgylchedd:
Rwy’n falch iawn o glywed am Wythnos Cysylltiadau Wrecsam gyda’r thema ‘Ceisio Noddfa’ gan ein bod i gyd yn gwybod am fanteision coed a choetiroedd i bobl a bywyd gwyllt.
Mae’n wych gweld bod y Cyngor wedi ymuno â Phartneriaeth Coedwigoedd Wrecsam ar gyfer hyn ac rwy’n falch o weld mai un o’r coed a enwebwyd am gynnig ‘Noddfa’ yw Castanwydden Bêr Wrecsam, ym Mharc Acton sy’n 484 oed ac a enillodd wobr fawreddog ‘Coeden y Flwyddyn’ y DU yn 2023.
Rwy’n gefnogwr brwd o goed yn ein cymuned ac yn rhannu barn Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Wrecsam y dylid eu dathlu yn yr ardal ac mae’n dda gweld pobl leol yn cael eu gwahodd i enwebu eu coeden ‘Noddfa’ eu hunain.
Ar gyfer Wythnos Cysylltiadau Coetir, mae cyngor Wrecsam wedi ymuno â Phartneriaeth Coedwig Wrecsam i gynnal cyfres o ddigwyddiadau a sgyrsiau gydol yr wythnos i ddangos i bobl pa mor arbennig ydyn nhw.
Mae sawl coeden o gwmpas Sir Wrecsam wedi cael eu dewis i ddathlu’r thema ‘Ceisio Noddfa’. Mae pob coeden wedi cael ei henwebu am gynnig ‘Noddfa’ mewn rhyw ffordd neu’i gilydd. Ymhlith y coed mae enillydd Coeden y Flwyddyn y DU 2023, sef Castanwydden Bêr Wrecsam, hen goeden 484 oed yng nghanol Parc Acton.
Mae Partneriaeth Coedwig Wrecsam yn gasgliad o sefydliadau sydd wedi llofnodi Addewid Coetir Wrecsam fel arwydd o’u hymrwymiad i gynyddu gorchudd canopi coed, a diogelu coed a choetir presennol ar draws y fwrdeistref sirol.
Un o’r ymrwymiadau yw “gwella iechyd a lles drwy annog a galluogi cysylltiadau â natur a choetir”. Mae Wythnos Cysylltiadau Coetir yn rhoi cyfle i unrhyw un ar hyd a lled Wrecsam wneud hynny.
