Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales has praised a Deeside company for its innovative ideas.
Mr Rowlands recently visited Polytag, based at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre on the Deeside Industrial Estate.
The company is a Wales based start-up which has developed an innovative system for tagging and tracing individual items of packaging.
He said:
I was very pleased to visit Polytag and meet the people coming up with innovative ideas. It was great to see the work they are doing at first-hand.
They are currently working on a deposit return scheme project, to help us to recycle more which is something the Welsh Government wants to introduce. A trial was run in Colwyn Heights by Conwy County Borough Council last year.
It is a very clever innovation and I I will be watching with interest to see how this technology develops.
Polytag is based at AMRC, on Deeside Industrial Estate with several other engineering firms. They are working with the Welsh Government who plan to introduce a Deposit Return Scheme for Wales.
The digital solution will see packaging printed with an identifier which can be scanned by a home-owner using their mobile phone before it goes into their recycling bin.
They can then claim their deposit back without having to take their used bottles, etc. to a physical location like a supermarket, to claim it back. The packaging is then recovered by councils through their kerbside waste collection and then recycled.
For the pilot scheme in Colwyn Heights, Colwyn Bay, Conwy, households were provided with labelled water bottles and given four weeks to use and recycle them. Out of the 271 households who took part in the trial 73% scanned and returned all of their bottles.
Sam Rowlands AS yn ymweld â’r Ganolfan Ymchwil Gweithgynhyrchu Uwch ar Lannau Dyfrdwy
Mae Sam Rowlands AS ar gyfer Gogledd Cymru wedi canmol cwmni ar Lannau Dyfrdwy am ei syniadau arloesol.
Yn ddiweddar, aeth Mr Rowlands i ymweld â chwmni Polytag, sydd wedi’i leoli yn y Ganolfan Ymchwil Gweithgynhyrchu Uwch ar Ystâd Ddiwydiannol Glannau Dyfrdwy.
Cwmni newydd o Gymru yw Polytag, sydd wedi datblygu system arloesol ar gyfer tagio ac olrhain eitemau deunydd pacio unigol.
Meddai:
Pleser oedd cael ymweld â chwmni Polytag i gyfarfod pobl sy’n datblygu syniadau arloesol a gweld y gwaith maen nhw’n ei wneud.
Ar hyn o bryd, mae’r cwmni yn gweithio ar gynllun dychwelyd ernes i’n helpu i ailgylchu mwy yn unol â dyhead Llywodraeth Cymru. Cynhaliodd Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy gynllun peilot yn ardal Ucheldir Colwyn y llynedd.
Mae’n ddatblygiad arloesol a chlyfar iawn a byddaf yn dilyn hynt y dechnoleg hon yn eiddgar i weld sut mae’n datblygu.
Lleolir Polytag yn AMRC, ar Ystâd Ddiwydiannol Glannau Dyfrdwy, ynghyd â sawl cwmni peirianneg arall. Mae’r cwmni yn cydweithio â Llywodraeth Cymru i gyflwyno Cynllun Dychwelyd Ernes i Gymru.
Trwy ddyfais ddigidol, bydd cod adnabod yn cael ei argraffu ar ddeunydd pacio, a bydd modd i berchennog cartref ddefnyddio ei ffôn i sganio’r cod cyn rhoi’r deunydd yn y bin ailgylchu.
Felly, gall hawlio’r ernes yn ôl heb orfod dychwelyd yr hen boteli ac ati i’r lleoliad gwreiddiol, fel archfarchnad. Mae cynghorau yn casglu’r deunydd pacio wedyn fel rhan o’u gwasanaeth casglu gwastraff ar garreg y drws, cyn mynd ati i’w ailgylchu.
Ar gyfer y cynllun peilot yn Ucheldir Colwyn, rhoddwyd poteli dŵr wedi’u labelu i gartrefi, a bu’n rhaid iddynt ddefnyddio ac ailgylchu’r poteli mewn pedair wythnos. Llwyddodd 73% o’r 271 o gartrefi a gymerodd ran yn y cynllun peilot i sganio a dychwelyd eu holl boteli.
