Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales and Darren Millar MS for Clwyd West have praised organisers for holding a football tournament for primary school aged pupils.
Sam, a keen supporter of the Conwy Schools Football Association, which was set up last November, said:
I am delighted to see the continued success of this programme. Not only has it produced a young footballer who is in now in the national squad and could soon win his first Welsh cap but it is also encouraging younger ones to play football.
It is fantastic to see children so young taking up the sport and the winners now have the chance to play in a national final. In less than 12 months it is amazing to see what has been achieved and congratulations should go to everyone involved.
Darren said:
It is great to see children benefitting and flourishing from the Conwy Schools Football Association. Thanks should also go to teachers and parents who helped out at the event.
Originally volunteer coaches worked with Conwy County Borough’s Leisure Department to get the project off the ground and there is no doubt it has been a resounding success.
The two day festival, which attracted about 150 players, was held at Colwyn Bay's Eirias Parc Barn with eight schools taking part in the mixed category and seven in the girls only category.
The event was supported by staff at Eirias Parc alongside apprentices from partner, AchieveMoreTraining, which provides opportunities for young up and coming sports apprentices.
The two winners of the festival for mixed and girls, came from Craig-y-Don and will be representing Conwy County at the National Primary 5's festival at Newtown Football Club, in Mid-Wales, on May 6th.
Harrison York, chairman of CSFA said it was fantastic to see both girls and boys participate in the inaugural Conwy SFA Primary 5's festival.
Harrison said:
It was fantastic to see both girls and boys participate in the inaugural Conwy SFA Primary 5's festival. We had close to 150 players, of varying abilities, partake across the two days and it was great to see them engaging in a participation and fun based competition.
The Primary 5's festival is a two day football festival which the Conwy Schools Football Association will be holding annually, in line with the Welsh Schools Football Association and was open to all Conwy schools. It provides fantastic opportunities for individuals of varying ability to compete in participation and fun based football festivals, but with the reward for the winners of both categories to represent Conwy at the National Primary 5's Festival at Newtown Football Club.
It was great to see schools football given a fantastic platform to showcase and we are looking forward to engaging with all Conwy based schools in the future of this programme!
Sam Rowlands AS a Darren Millar AS yn croesawu llwyddiant parhaus Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Ysgolion Conwy
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr AS dros Ogledd Cymru, a Darren Millar, AS Gorllewin Clwyd, wedi canmol trefnwyr am gynnal twrnamaint pêl-droed i ddisgyblion ysgolion cynradd.
Dywedodd Sam, sy'n gefnogwr brwd Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Ysgolion Conwy, a sefydlwyd fis Tachwedd diwethaf:
Rwy'n falch iawn o weld y rhaglen hon yn mynd o nerth i nerth. Nid yn unig y mae wedi cynhyrchu pêl-droediwr ifanc sydd bellach yn y garfan genedlaethol ac a allai ennill ei gap cyntaf i Gymru cyn bo hir, ond mae hefyd yn annog plant iau i chwarae pêl-droed.
Mae'n wych gweld plant mor ifanc yn cymryd rhan yn y gamp ac mae'r enillwyr rŵan yn cael cyfle i chwarae mewn rownd derfynol genedlaethol. Mae'n anhygoel gweld beth sydd wedi'i gyflawni mewn llai na 12 mis, a llongyfarchiadau i bawb dan sylw.
Dywedodd Darren:
Mae'n wych gweld plant yn elwa ac yn ffynnu diolch i Gymdeithas Bêl-droed Ysgolion Conwy. Diolch hefyd i athrawon a rhieni a fu'n helpu yn y digwyddiad.
Fe weithiodd hyfforddwyr gwirfoddol gydag Adran Hamdden Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy i roi'r prosiect ar waith, ac mae wedi bod yn llwyddiant ysgubol heb os.
Cynhaliwyd yr ŵyl ddeuddydd, a ddenodd tua 150 o chwaraewyr, ym Mharc Eirias Bae Colwyn gydag wyth ysgol yn cymryd rhan yn y categori cymysg a saith yn y categori merched yn unig.
Cefnogwyd y digwyddiad gan staff Parc Eirias ochr yn ochr â phrentisiaid o'u partner, AchieveMoreTraining, sy'n darparu cyfleoedd i brentisiaid chwaraeon ifanc.
Timau Craig y Don ddaeth i'r brig yn y categorïau merched a chymysg, a nhw fydd yn cynrychioli Sir Conwy yng Ngŵyl Genedlaethol 5 bob ochr Ysgolion Cynradd yng nghlwb pêl-droed y Drenewydd ar 6 Mai.
Dywedodd Harrison York, cadeirydd CSFA, ei bod yn wych gweld merched a bechgyn yn cymryd rhan yng ngŵyl 5 bob ochr gyntaf ysgolion cynradd Conwy.
Meddai Harrison:
Roedd hi'n hyfryd gweld merched a bechgyn yn cymryd rhan yn yr ŵyl gyntaf hon yn Sir Conwy. Roedd gennym bron i 150 o chwaraewyr, o bob gallu, yn cymryd rhan ar draws y ddau ddiwrnod ac roedd hi'n wych eu gweld yn cymryd rhan mewn cystadleuaeth lle mae’r pwyslais ar gael hwyl a chymryd rhan.
Mae’r ŵyl 5 bob ochr yn ŵyl bêl-droed dros ddau ddiwrnod y bydd Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Ysgolion Conwy yn ei chynnal bob blwyddyn, yn unol â Chymdeithas Bêl-droed Ysgolion Cymru, ac roedd yn agored i bob ysgol yng Nghonwy. Mae'n cynnig cyfleoedd gwych i unigolion o bob gallu gystadlu mewn gŵyl bêl-droed, gydag enillwyr y ddau gategori yn mynd ymlaen i gynrychioli Conwy yng Ngŵyl Genedlaethol 5 bob ochr Ysgolion Cynradd yn y Drenewydd.
Roedd hi’n wych gweld pêl-droed ysgolion yn cael ei chwarae ar lwyfan penigamp ac rydyn ni'n edrych ymlaen at gael holl ysgolion y Sir i gymryd rhan yn y dyfodol!
