Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has expressed concern over funding for schools.
Speaking in the Senedd, Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Local Government said:
Local authorities are again experiencing some challenges in terms of their financial situation. One of the key concerns, which has been raised with me, is the fact that some councils in Wales have indicated to their schools that they should be preparing to reduce their budgets by around 10% in the next financial year.
I would have thought that schools and education are probably one of the core services that local authorities provide.
Mr Rowlands asked Finance Minister, Rebecca Evans, whether Welsh Government will be giving instruction or guidance to local authorities, when determining their budgets in the next financial year, and would part of that instruction or guidance be in relation to those vital core services, such as funding for our schools.
The Minister said there were pressures on education and budget discussions were ongoing and she would present as much information as she could for colleagues.
Sam Rowlands AS yn tynnu sylw at yr heriau ariannol sy’n wynebu cynghorau
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, wedi mynegi pryder am gyllid i ysgolion.
Wrth siarad yn y Senedd, dywedodd Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Lywodraeth Leol:
Mae awdurdodau lleol yn profi heriau unwaith eto o ran eu sefyllfa ariannol. Un o’r prif bryderon, y maen nhw wedi’i godi gyda mi, yw’r ffaith fod rhai cynghorau yng Nghymru wedi dweud wrth eu hysgolion y dylen nhw baratoi i leihau eu cyllidebau tua 10% yn y flwyddyn ariannol nesaf.
Fe fyddwn i wedi meddwl mai ysgolion ac addysg yw un o’r gwasanaethau craidd sy’n cael eu darparu gan awdurdodau lleol.
Gofynnodd Mr Rowlands i’r Gweinidog Cyllid, Rebecca Evans, a fyddai Llywodraeth Cymru’n rhoi cyfarwyddyd neu ganllawiau i awdurdodau lleol, wrth benderfynu eu cyllidebau yn y flwyddyn ariannol nesaf, ac a fyddai rhan o’r cyfarwyddyd neu’r canllawiau yn ymwneud â’r gwasanaethau craidd hanfodol hynny, fel cyllid i’n hysgolion.
Dywedodd y Gweinidog fod yna bwysau ar addysg a bod trafodaethau ar gyllidebau yn mynd rhagddynt ac y byddai’n cyflwyno cymaint o wybodaeth ag y gallai i gydweithwyr.
