Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has praised the owners of a Llandudno hotel for its ambitious green transformation.
Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of looking at ways of improving the environment, recently visited the Llandudno Bay Hotel which has undergone an ambitious green transformation to slash energy costs and reduce its carbon footprint by 84%.
He said:
I was delighted to have the opportunity to see for myself the transformation of this magnificent Victorian seafront hotel which had been closed whilst undergoing a major upgrade.
With utility bills set to be over £300,000 it clearly was not viable to continue running the hotel as it was. Everbright Hotels then stepped in to take over the property and introduced ambitious plans to go green bringing the cost down to around £80,000.
I was extremely impressed to hear all about the transformation by the Everbight Hotel Group, who also own three other properties in North Wales and two in Cumbria.
As chair of the Welsh Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Tourism, it is great to see such important investment in North Wales and especially in Llandudno, the jewel in the crown for attracting tourists to the area.
The Grade Two listed Llandudno Bay Hotel on the town’s Victorian seafront had been closed for over two years when it was taken over by Everbright Hotel Group.
The green energy initiatives, which include installing new aluminium and copper radiators and introducing multi zone temperature controllers in bedrooms and public areas has now enabled the hotel to operate more economically and with a substantial reduction in carbon emissions.
The hotel has also installed EV charging points to encourage visitors to reduce their carbon emissions
It’s a renewable recipe that is now set to be repeated across the award-winning group’s remaining hotels in North Wales, Rossett Hall, near Wrexham, the Wild Pheasant in Llangollen, and in Llandudno at the Belmont, where work has already started, and the Queens Hotel which is due to reopen next year.

Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod Rhanbarthol o Senedd Cymru dros Ogledd Cymru, wedi canmol perchnogion gwesty yn Llandudno am ei drawsnewidiad gwyrdd uchelgeisiol.
Yn ddiweddar, ymwelodd Mr Rowlands, sy'n gefnogwr brwd o edrych ar ffyrdd o wella'r amgylchedd, â Gwesty Bae Llandudno sydd wedi cael trawsnewidiad gwyrdd uchelgeisiol i dorri costau ynni a lleihau ei ôl troed carbon 84%.
Dywedodd:
Roeddwn yn falch iawn o gael y cyfle i weld drosof fy hun y trawsnewid yn y gwesty godidog Fictoraidd hwn ar lan y môr a oedd wedi bod ar gau wrth iddo gael uwchraddiad sylweddol.
Gyda biliau cyfleustodau yn debygol o fod dros £300,000, roedd yn amlwg nad oedd yn ymarferol parhau i redeg y gwesty fel yr oedd. Camodd Everbright Hotels i'r adwy i gymryd yr eiddo drosodd a chyflwyno cynlluniau uchelgeisiol i fynd yn wyrdd, gan ddod â'r gost i lawr i tua £80,000.
Roeddwn yn hynod falch o glywed am y trawsnewidiad gan Grŵp Everbright Hotels, sydd hefyd yn berchen ar dri eiddo arall yng Ngogledd Cymru a dau yn Cumbria.
Fel cadeirydd Grŵp Trawsbleidiol Senedd Cymru ar Dwristiaeth, mae'n wych gweld buddsoddiad mor bwysig yng Ngogledd Cymru ac yn enwedig yn Llandudno, un o lefydd twristiaeth pwysica’r ardal.
Roedd Gwesty Bae Llandudno sy’n westy rhestredig Fictoraidd ar lan y môr yn y dref wedi bod ar gau am dros ddwy flynedd pan gymerodd Everbright Hotel Group y gwesty.
Mae'r mentrau ynni gwyrdd, sy'n cynnwys gosod rheiddiaduron alwminiwm a chopr newydd a chyflwyno rheolyddion tymheredd aml-barth mewn ystafelloedd gwely ac ardaloedd cyhoeddus bellach wedi galluogi'r gwesty i weithredu'n fwy darbodus a gyda gostyngiad sylweddol mewn allyriadau carbon.
Mae'r gwesty hefyd wedi gosod pwyntiau gwefru EV i annog ymwelwyr i leihau eu hallyriadau carbon.
Mae'n gynllun adnewyddadwy sydd bellach yn debygol o gael ei ailadrodd ar draws gwestai eraill sy'n eiddo i’r grŵp arobryn yng Ngogledd Cymru, Rossett Hall, ger Wrecsam, y Wild Pheasant yn Llangollen, a’r Belmont yn Llandudno, lle mae gwaith eisoes wedi dechrau, a Gwesty'r Queens sydd i fod i ailagor y flwyddyn nesaf.
