Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales is urging young farmers in his region, to travel and learn more about agriculture in other countries.
As a keen supporter of agriculture and rural affairs, he is calling on young people, under the age of 30 years, to apply for the Gareth Raw Rees Memorial Scholarship.
Mr Rowlands said:
The scholarship fund provides a wonderful opportunity for young farmers who are keen to learn more about agriculture and farming methods in other parts of the world.
As everybody knows it is more important than ever these days to gain a wider knowledge of the agricultural industry and it is great to see such opportunities available for young farmers in Wales.
I would urge anyone interested to make sure they apply.
The scholarship, which receives an annual donation from the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust, is looking for applicants considering travelling in the UK, Europe or further afield. If you are under 30 years old and would like some financial assistance with your travels, then contact NFU Cymru for an application form – even if you have already received support from another scholarship or fund.
NFU Cymru Policy Adviser, Lowri Price said:
The scholarship fund was launched in 1984 in memory of the late Gareth Raw Rees MBE from Ceredigion, whose considerable energies had always been directed towards promoting the interests of young people in farming and in the countryside. He was a firm believer in the benefits of travelling towards the fulfilment of a broader and more rewarding education.
We have awarded scholarships to some incredible young farmers and their experiences abroad have been extremely beneficial to their own farming practices back here in Wales. I urge anyone looking to travel abroad to submit an application this year as you could very well be successful.
The Scholarship is managed by the Raw Rees family, NFU Cymru, NFU Mutual, Wales YFC, the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) at Aberystwyth University and the Future Farmers of Wales.
Trevor Lloyd, Chairman of NFU Mutual’s Advisory Board for Wales said:
The Gareth Raw Rees Scholarship offers fantastic opportunities for young people to travel and learn about farming methods in other parts of the world.
In today’s fast changing agricultural industry, it’s vital that our young farmers gain a wider perspective to help them farm successfully, which is why NFU Mutual is a strong supporter of the scholarship scheme. Over the years we’ve received some exceptional applications from some very capable and enterprising young people and have been able to support their efforts in visiting and learning about a variety of agricultural techniques employed across the globe. We very much look forward to receiving some equally impressive applications once again in 2024.
The closing date for applications is Friday June 14 2024 and the winners will be announced on the Tuesday of this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
For an application form, contact Lowri Price at NFU Cymru on 01982 554200 or email [email protected]. A copy of the guidelines and an application form is also available here on the NFU Cymru website.
Sam Rowlands AS yn annog ffermwyr ifanc i wneud cais am gyfle i deithio'r byd
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru yn annog ffermwyr ifanc yn ei ranbarth, i deithio a dysgu mwy am amaethyddiaeth mewn gwledydd eraill.
Fel cefnogwr brwd dros amaethyddiaeth a materion gwledig, mae'n galw ar bobl ifanc, dan 30 oed, i wneud cais am Ysgoloriaeth Goffa Gareth Raw Rees.
Meddai Mr Rowlands:
Mae'r gronfa ysgoloriaeth yn rhoi cyfle gwych i ffermwyr ifanc sy'n awyddus i ddysgu mwy am amaethyddiaeth a dulliau ffermio mewn rhannau eraill o'r byd.
Fel y gŵyr pawb, mae'n bwysicach nag erioed y dyddiau hyn i gael gwybodaeth ehangach am y diwydiant amaethyddol ac mae'n wych gweld cyfleoedd o'r fath ar gael i ffermwyr ifanc yng Nghymru.
Byddwn yn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb i sicrhau eu bod yn gwneud cais.
Mae'r ysgoloriaeth, sy'n derbyn rhodd flynyddol gan Ymddiriedolaeth Elusennol NFU Mutual, yn chwilio am ymgeiswyr sy'n ystyried teithio yn y DU, Ewrop neu ymhellach i ffwrdd. Os ydych chi o dan 30 oed ac am gael rhywfaint o gymorth ariannol tuag at eich teithiau, yna cysylltwch ag NFU Cymru am ffurflen gais - hyd yn oed os ydych chi eisoes wedi derbyn cefnogaeth gan ysgoloriaeth neu gronfa arall.
Meddai Cynghorydd Polisi NFU Cymru, Lowri Price:
Lansiwyd y gronfa ysgoloriaeth yn 1984 er cof am y diweddar Gareth Raw Rees MBE o Geredigion, a weithiodd yn ddiflino i hyrwyddo buddiannau pobl ifanc mewn ffermio ac yng nghefn gwlad. Roedd yn credu'n gryf mewn manteision teithio tuag at gyflawni addysg ehangach a gwerth chweil.
Rydyn ni wedi dyfarnu ysgoloriaethau i ffermwyr ifanc anhygoel ac mae eu profiadau dramor wedi bod yn hynod fuddiol i'w harferion ffermio eu hunain yn ôl yma yng Nghymru. Rwy'n annog unrhyw un sydd am deithio dramor i gyflwyno cais eleni gan y gallech chi fod yn llwyddiannus iawn.
Rheolir yr Ysgoloriaeth gan y teulu Raw Rees, NFU Cymru, NFU Mutual, CFfI Cymru, Sefydliad y Gwyddorau Biolegol, Amgylcheddol a Gwledig (IBERS) ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth a Ffermwyr Dyfodol Cymru.
Meddai Trevor Lloyd, Cadeirydd Bwrdd Cynghori NFU Mutual Cymru:
Mae Ysgoloriaeth Gareth Raw Rees yn cynnig cyfleoedd gwych i bobl ifanc deithio a dysgu am ddulliau ffermio mewn rhannau eraill o'r byd.
Yn y diwydiant amaethyddol sy'n newid yn gyflym heddiw, mae'n hanfodol bod ein ffermwyr ifanc yn cael persbectif ehangach i'w helpu i ffermio'n llwyddiannus, a dyna pam mae NFU Mutual yn gefnogwr brwd o'r cynllun ysgoloriaethau. Dros y blynyddoedd rydyn ni wedi derbyn ceisiadau eithriadol gan bobl ifanc galluog a mentrus iawn ac wedi gallu cefnogi eu hymdrechion i ymweld a dysgu am amrywiaeth o dechnegau amaethyddol a ddefnyddir bedwar ban byd.
