Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales is urging fellow politicians to back a crucial debate in the Senedd against the controversial legislation.
The Senedd Business Committee has announced that a formal debate will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) after a petition signed by 10,000 against the roll out which means the Petitions Committee has to hold a formal debate.
Mr Rowlands, a long time campaigner against the controversial new law said:
It’s disappointing that once again the default 20mph speed limit is having to be raised in the Senedd, all because Welsh Government Ministers refuse to listen to feedback from the public they’re supposed to represent.
Everybody knows my feelings on this issue and it really is quite scandalous that almost half a million people have signed a petition against this implementation yet it still went ahead.
Only last week I called for the Welsh Government to stop fiddling about the edges and scrap the default 20mph speed limit. It is clear from their comments that their so-called “review” will not result in any significant changes.
We all agree with 20mph speed limits outside schools, hospitals and other roads where there is clear evidence that lower speed limits are backed by the local community but not as a default on arterial roads. This barmy legislation continues to cause chaos, frustration and confusion across North Wales.
I have continually called for this ridiculous and bonkers idea to be ditched and it is high time that my fellow MSs, whichever party they belong to, begin representing their constituents and back efforts to get the new speed limit repealed.

Mae Pwyllgor Busnes y Senedd wedi cyhoeddi y bydd dadl ffurfiol yn cael ei chynnal yfory (dydd Mercher) ar ôl deiseb wedi'i llofnodi gan 10,000 yn erbyn cyflwyno’r ddeddfwriaeth sy'n golygu bod yn rhaid i'r Pwyllgor Deisebau gynnal dadl ffurfiol.
Meddai Mr Rowlands, ymgyrchydd selog yn erbyn y gyfraith newydd ddadleuol:
Mae'n siomedig unwaith eto bod yn rhaid codi'r terfyn cyflymder cyffredinol o 20mya yn y Senedd, a hynny oherwydd bod Gweinidogion Llywodraeth Cymru’n gwrthod gwrando ar adborth gan y cyhoedd y maen nhw i fod i'w cynrychioli.
Mae pawb yn gwybod am fy nheimladau ar y mater hwn ac mae'n warthus bod bron i hanner miliwn o bobl wedi arwyddo deiseb yn erbyn rhoi’r polisi ar waith, ond ei fod wedi’i roi ar waith er hynny.
Dim ond yr wythnos diwethaf fe wnes i alw ar Lywodraeth Cymru i roi'r gorau i lusgo eu sodlau a chael gwared ar y terfyn cyflymder cyffredinol o 20mya. Mae'n amlwg o'u sylwadau na fydd eu “hadolygiad” fel y'i gelwir yn arwain at unrhyw newidiadau o bwys.
Rydyn ni i gyd yn cytuno â therfynau cyflymder 20mya y tu allan i ysgolion, ysbytai a ffyrdd eraill lle mae tystiolaeth glir bod terfynau cyflymder is yn cael eu cefnogi gan y gymuned leol ond nid fel mater o drefn ar ffyrdd eraill. Mae'r ddeddfwriaeth hon yn hurt bost ac yn parhau i achosi anhrefn, rhwystredigaeth a dryswch ar draws y Gogledd.
Rwyf wedi galw'n barhaus am gael gwared ar y syniad hurt a gwallgof hwn ac mae'n hen bryd i'm cyd-aelodau o’r Senedd, pa bynnag blaid maen nhw’n perthyn iddi, ddechrau cynrychioli eu hetholwyr a chefnogi eu hymdrechion i ddiddymu'r terfyn cyflymder newydd.
