Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has slammed Welsh Government proposals to tell us what we can eat and drink.
Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister was commenting on a Labour Welsh Government draft regulation consultation wherein there are proposals to restrict the ability of retailers to offer free refills, buy one get one free and multibuy offers.
He said:
I really can’t believe that the Welsh Government is considering yet another nanny state plan which will hit people in North Wales in their pockets.
This latest consultation is yet another over the top regulation and completely uncalled for. The Welsh Government, who have been unsuccessfully running the NHS in Wales for over 25 years, should be concentrating their efforts on improving the service, never mind exacerbating the cost of living for the poorest in society.
Of course healthy eating is important but I really believe we all have the right to decide what we eat, drink and buy and decisions like these should not just be foisted upon us.
It is yet another vanity project like the unpopular and contentious introduction of the 20mph speed limit and it is time for the Welsh Government get on with the job they were voted in to do and leave us all to make our own choices.
Mae Sam Rowlands AS wedi beirniadu cynlluniau Llywodraeth Cymru i gosbi ei etholwyr yn y Gogledd ymhellach
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, wedi beirniadu cynigion Llywodraeth Cymru i ddweud wrthym beth allwn ni ei fwyta a'i yfed.
Gwnaeth Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Iechyd yr Wrthblaid y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig y sylwadau ar ymgynghoriad rheoleiddio drafft Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru sy’n cynnwys cynigion i gyfyngu ar allu manwerthwyr i gynnig ail-lenwi cwpanau am ddim, prynu un a chael un am ddim a chynigion aml-brynu.
Meddai:
Ni allaf gredu bod Llywodraeth Cymru yn ystyried cynllun gwladwriaeth nani arall a fydd yn taro pobl y Gogledd yn eu pocedi.
Mae'r ymgynghoriad diweddaraf hwn yn rheoliad dros ben llestri arall nad oes ei angen. Dylai Llywodraeth Cymru, sydd wedi bod yn rhedeg y GIG yng Nghymru yn aflwyddiannus ers dros 25 mlynedd, ganolbwyntio eu hymdrechion ar wella'r gwasanaeth, yn hytrach na chynyddu costau byw i'r bobl dlotaf mewn cymdeithas.
Wrth gwrs, mae bwyta'n iach yn bwysig ond rwy'n credu bod gan bob un ohonom ni’r hawl i benderfynu beth rydyn ni’n ei fwyta, ei yfed a'i brynu ac ni ddylai penderfyniadau fel hyn gael eu gorfodi arnom ni.
Mae'n brosiect hurt arall eto fel cyflwyno'r terfyn cyflymder 20mya amhoblogaidd a dadleuol ac mae'n bryd i Lywodraeth Cymru fwrw ymlaen â'r gwaith y cawsant eu hethol i’w wneud a'n gadael ni i gyd i ddewis drosom ni ein hunain.
