Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales has added his voice to calls for everyone eligible for a flu vaccination to get protected.
Mr Rowlands, who has a flu jab every year, is now urging people to make sure they protect themselves this winter.
He said:
The flu vaccination programme is underway throughout Wales, offering vaccines to individuals most at risk of serious complications from influenza. My message to them all is to make sure it’s at the top of your ‘to-do’ list this autumn.
This year more than ever, people are very aware of the dangers of respiratory viral infection and vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others around you against flu.
Flu is bad enough on its own but for anyone who is unfortunate to catch both flu and Covid, the consequences could be very severe indeed. It is vital as many people as possible get protected, particularly those who are most vulnerable. Not only does this protect the individual but also protects our Welsh NHS.
Public Health Wales has launched its biggest ever winter vaccination programme and all eligible people in Wales are being urged to have their free Welsh NHS flu vaccines.
This year the flu vaccination programme has been extended to include all those over 50 years old and between years 7 to 11 in the schools programme.
As the global pandemic continues, the impact of COVID-19 on the nation has been significant, but flu can be serious too. The chances of becoming seriously ill with COVID-19 or flu are greatly reduced by vaccination, as are the risks of spreading these viruses.

Mae Sam Rowlands AS yn annog pawb i ofalu amdanynt eu hunain y gaeaf hwn a chael eu brechu rhag y ffliw
Mae Sam Rowlands AS Gogledd Cymru wedi ychwanegu ei lais i’r ymgyrch i bawb sy'n gymwys i fachu ar y cyfle i gael eu brechu rhag y ffliw.
Mae Mr Rowlands, sy'n cael ei frechu rhag y ffliw bob blwyddyn, bellach yn annog pobl i wneud yn siŵr eu bod yn amddiffyn eu hunain y gaeaf hwn.
Dywedodd:
Mae'r rhaglen brechu rhag y ffliw ar waith ledled Cymru, gan gynnig brechlyn i unigolion sy'n wynebu'r risg fwyaf o gymhlethdodau difrifol oherwydd y ffliw. Fy neges iddyn nhw i gyd yw gwneud yn siŵr ei fod ar frig eu rhestr 'pethau i'w gwneud' yr hydref hwn.
Eleni yn fwy nag erioed, mae pobl yn ymwybodol iawn o beryglon haint feirysol anadlol a brechu yw'r ffordd orau o amddiffyn eich hun ac eraill o'ch cwmpas rhag y ffliw.
Mae'r ffliw yn ddigon drwg ar ei ben ei hun ond i unrhyw un sy'n ddigon anffodus i ddal y ffliw a Covid, gallai'r canlyniadau fod yn ddifrifol iawn yn wir. Mae'n hanfodol bod cynifer o bobl â phosibl yn cael eu diogelu, yn enwedig y rhai sydd fwyaf agored i niwed. Nid yn unig y mae hyn yn diogelu'r unigolyn ond mae'n diogelu ein GIG yng Nghymru hefyd.
Mae Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru wedi lansio rhaglen frechu’r gaeaf fwyaf erioed ac mae pob unigolyn cymwys yng Nghymru yn cael ei annog i gael brechlyn ffliw GIG Cymru sy'n rhad ac am ddim.
Eleni mae'r rhaglen brechu rhag y ffliw wedi'i hymestyn i gynnwys pawb dros 50 oed a rhwng blynyddoedd 7 ac 11 yn y rhaglen ysgolion.
Wrth i'r pandemig byd-eang barhau, mae effaith COVID-19 ar y genedl wedi bod yn sylweddol, ond gall y ffliw fod yn ddifrifol hefyd. Mae brechu’n lleihau’n fawr y siawns o fynd yn ddifrifol wael gyda COVID-19 neu'r ffliw, ac yn lleihau’r risg o ledaenu'r feirysau hyn hefyd.
I gael rhagor o wybodaeth am y ffordd y mae brechlynnau'n eich diogelu, ac am symptomau'r ffliw a COVID-19, ewch i https://icc.gig.cymru/pynciau/imiwneiddio-a-brechlynnau/
