Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has praised residents in Wrexham for helping the city pick up another top award.
Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of the environment and chair of the Seneddd’s Cross-Party Group on Tourism said:
I am delighted to see Wrexham being awarded another gold in the Wales in Bloom Competition, in the city category. What a great boost for the area.
They did really well last year thanks to the many local volunteers as well as the Council team, and it is encouraging to see that their hard work has once again paid off.
I think it is great to get communities involved so they can actually see the fruits of their labours and once again put the wonderful city of Wrexham firmly on the national map.
After winning gold last year they were invited to represent Wales at Britain in Bloom where they are up against London and Dundee. That result will be announced soon and fingers crossed they will come out on top.
The competition’s message ‘Helping Communities Grow’ encourages community support in order to improve the local environment.
Across the city centre and surrounding villages members of the public and the local authority came together to plant flower beds, scatter wildflowers and showcase their gardening prowess.
During their visit the judges visited Coedpoeth to see a natural wildlife front garden, before heading to the refurbished Pentrebychan Nursery to see the new polytunnels which are helping to boost the council’s sustainable growing.
From there it was on to Bradley where residents showcased their communal and formal gardens and the FCC Recycling Centre to have a talk on recycling rates and other environmental projects.
Judges were greeted at the Erlas Walled Garden by users and volunteers from the project for a tour of the site and the school gardening club at Rhosnesni High School showcased their green finger credentials with their impressive vegetable and sensory gardens.
During the City Centre visit judges spoke to Wrexham Council Chief Executive Ian Bancroft, Leader Cllr Mark Pritchard, Deputy Leader David Bithell, as well as Wrexham Mayor Cllr Beryl Blackmore.
The tour ended at Tŷ Pawb where judges met a team from Wrexham Litter Pickers, council trainees and other members of the Environment team.
In their feedback, the judges said:
We were incredibly pleased to both see and hear about the broad spectrum of volunteering opportunities that allow residents to be actively involved in caring for their local greenspace.
Wrexham’s commitment to environmental responsibility is clearly documented in your portfolio. Well done!
The Wrexham recycling statistics as presented by FCC Environment are indeed impressive, it was good to hear about the types and numbers of events being organised to encourage the residents and businesses in Wrexham to recycle further.
Sam Rowlands AS wrth ei fodd yn gweld Wrecsam yn ennill y wobr aur yng nghystadleuaeth Cymru yn ei Blodau
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, wedi canmol trigolion Wrecsam am helpu'r ddinas i ennill gwobr arall o fri.
Dywedodd Mr Rowlands, sy’n cefnogi’r amgylchedd yn frwd ac sy’n gadeirydd Grŵp Trawsbleidiol y Senedd ar Dwristiaeth:
Rwy'n falch iawn o weld Wrecsam yn cael gwobr aur arall yng Nghystadleuaeth Cymru yn ei Blodau, yng nghategori'r dinasoedd. Mae hyn yn hwb mawr i'r ardal.
Fe wnaethon nhw'n dda iawn y llynedd diolch i'r nifer fawr o wirfoddolwyr lleol yn ogystal â thîm y Cyngor, ac mae'n galonogol gweld bod eu gwaith caled wedi talu ar ei ganfed unwaith eto.
Rwy'n credu ei bod yn wych cael cymunedau i gymryd rhan fel y gallant weld ffrwyth eu llafur a rhoi dinas wych Wrecsam yn gadarn ar y map cenedlaethol unwaith eto.
Ar ôl ennill aur y llynedd fe gawson nhw wahoddiad i gynrychioli Cymru ym Mhrydain yn ei Blodau lle maen nhw’n cystadlu yn erbyn Llundain a Dundee. Bydd y canlyniad hwnnw'n cael ei gyhoeddi’n fuan a does ond gobeithio y byddan nhw’n dod i'r brig.
Mae neges y gystadleuaeth 'Helpu Cymunedau i Dyfu' yn annog cefnogaeth gymunedol er mwyn gwella'r amgylchedd lleol.
Ar draws canol y ddinas a'r pentrefi cyfagos daeth aelodau'r cyhoedd a'r awdurdod lleol ynghyd i blannu gwelyau blodau, gwasgaru blodau gwyllt ac arddangos eu doniau garddio.
Yn ystod eu hymweliad, ymwelodd y beirniaid â Choedpoeth i weld gardd bywyd gwyllt naturiol, cyn mynd i Blanhigfa Pentrebychan sydd wedi'i hadnewyddu i weld y polytwneli newydd sy'n helpu i hybu twf cynaliadwy'r cyngor.
Wedyn, ymlaen i Bradley lle’r oedd preswylwyr yn arddangos eu gerddi cymunedol a ffurfiol a Chanolfan Ailgylchu Cyngor Sir y Fflint i gael sgwrs ar gyfraddau ailgylchu a phrosiectau amgylcheddol eraill.
Cafodd y beirniaid eu cyfarch yng Ngardd Furiog Erlas gan ddefnyddwyr a gwirfoddolwyr o'r prosiect ar gyfer taith o amgylch y safle ac roedd clwb garddio'r ysgol yn Ysgol Uwchradd Rhosnesni yn arddangos eu cymwysterau garddio gyda'u gerddi llysiau a synhwyraidd trawiadol.
Yn ystod ymweliad â Chanol y Ddinas siaradodd y beirniaid â Phrif Weithredwr Cyngor Wrecsam, Ian Bancroft, Arweinydd y Cynghorydd Mark Pritchard, y Dirprwy Arweinydd David Bithell, yn ogystal â Maer Wrecsam, y Cynghorydd Beryl Blackmore.
Daeth y daith i ben yn Nhŷ Pawb lle cyfarfu'r beirniaid â thîm o Wrexham Litter Pickers, hyfforddeion y cyngor ac aelodau eraill o dîm yr Amgylchedd.
Yn eu hadborth, dywedodd y beirniaid:
Roedden ni’n hynod falch o weld a chlywed am y sbectrwm eang o gyfleoedd gwirfoddoli sy'n caniatáu i breswylwyr gymryd rhan weithredol yn y gwaith o ofalu am eu mannau gwyrdd lleol.
Mae ymrwymiad Wrecsam i gyfrifoldeb amgylcheddol wedi'i gofnodi'n glir yn eich portffolio. Da iawn!
Mae ystadegau ailgylchu Wrecsam fel y'u cyflwynwyd gan FCC Environment yn wirioneddol drawiadol, da oedd clywed am y mathau a'r nifer o ddigwyddiadau sy'n cael eu trefnu i annog trigolion a busnesau Wrecsam i ailgylchu ymhellach.
