Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging constituents not to be fooled by scam texts.
Mr Rowlands has added his voice to a call from Denbighshire County Council who are warning residents not to fall for a winter fuel payment scam.
He said:
These days more than ever we all have to be on the lookout for despicable scammers who prey on the vulnerable and the elderly.
Unfortunately there are unscrupulous people out there and Denbighshire council is now warning residents to be especially aware of text message scams.
With the UK Labour Government scrapping the winter fuel payment for many pensioners, it is sad but true that some people might well be taken in by a fraudulent text.
I would urge anyone not to be fooled if they receive a message claiming to be from the council offering winter fuel payments.
Please take care not to be scammed and remember that if you do receive an offer which appears to be too good to be true then it probably is.
Denbighshire County Council are warning residents of a scam circulating the county where they receive texts about potential winter fuel payments.
Recently, the Council have been made aware of a scam that has been targeting residents claiming they are entitled to receive winter fuel payments.
Recipients receiving these texts, are notified that they are entitled to winter fuel payments and are invited to provide more information by clicking a fraudulent link.
Denbighshire County Council would like to remind residents to think twice before responding to any suspicious text messages from unknown numbers and report any suspicious contact from unknown numbers.
Sam Rowlands AS yn tynnu sylw at sgam y taliad tanwydd gaeaf
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, yn annog etholwyr i beidio â chael eu twyllo gan sgamiau negeseuon testun.
Mae Mr Rowlands wedi ychwanegu ei lais at alwad gan Gyngor Sir Ddinbych sy'n rhybuddio trigolion i beidio â disgyn am sgamiau’r taliad tanwydd gaeaf.
Meddai:
Y dyddiau yma yn fwy nag erioed mae'n rhaid i ni i gyd fod yn wyliadwrus am sgamwyr ffiaidd sy'n manteisio ar y bregus a'r henoed.
Yn anffodus mae yna bobl ddiegwyddor allan yno ac mae Cyngor Sir Ddinbych bellach yn rhybuddio trigolion i fod yn arbennig o ymwybodol o sgamiau ar ffurf neges destun.
Gyda Llywodraeth Lafur y DU yn cael gwared ar y taliad tanwydd gaeaf i lawer o bensiynwyr, mae'n drist ond yn wir y gallai rhai lyncu’r abwyd gyda negeseuon testun twyllodrus.
Byddwn yn annog unrhyw un i beidio â chael eu twyllo os ydyn nhw'n derbyn neges yn honni eu bod gan y cyngor sy'n cynnig taliadau tanwydd gaeaf.
Cymerwch ofal i beidio â chael eich twyllo a chofiwch, os ydych chi'n derbyn cynnig sy'n ymddangos yn rhy dda i fod yn wir yna mae'n debyg ei fod o.
Mae Cyngor Sir Ddinbych yn rhybuddio trigolion am sgam sy'n cylchredeg yn y sir lle maen nhw'n derbyn negeseuon testun am daliadau tanwydd gaeaf posib.
Yn ddiweddar, mae'r Cyngor wedi cael gwybod am sgam sydd wedi bod yn targedu preswylwyr sy'n honni bod ganddyn nhw hawl i dderbyn taliadau tanwydd gaeaf.
Hysbysir derbynwyr sy'n derbyn y negeseuon testun hyn fod ganddyn nhw hawl i daliadau tanwydd gaeaf ac fe'u gwahoddir i ddarparu rhagor o wybodaeth trwy glicio ar ddolen dwyllodrus.
Hoffai Cyngor Sir Ddinbych atgoffa trigolion i feddwl ddwywaith cyn ymateb i unrhyw negeseuon testun amheus o rifau anhysbys a rhoi gwybod am unrhyw gyswllt amheus o rifau anhysbys.
