Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging schools to enter a competition to name Denbighshire’s new recycling fleet.
Denbighshire County Council is taking delivery of 21 new recycling vehicles, including three electric vehicles, and wants the county’s school children to name them.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Local Government and a keen supporter of encouraging councils to involve the public in decisions said:
I think it is a great idea to ask local schoolchildren to come up with creative names for the new vehicles.
Not only will it continue to raise awareness about recycling but it will also encourage pupils to learn more about the environment.
Entries for the competition opened on Monday September 4, which coincides with the start of the new school term and I would urge schools to encourage their children to take part in the competition.
The competition runs until September 30 and Denbighshire school children are invited to submit their creative names for the recycling lorries in either Welsh or English. There are four categories: Years 1-2; Years 3-6; Years 7-9 and a special merit category for children and young people with special educational needs.
The winning names will be printed onto the new vehicles, and pupils will have the opportunity to be photographed with the vehicle they named.
The new fleet has been bought to replace the old fleet and is part of a range of measures the Council is taking to reach the county’s recycling target of 70%.
A spokesperson from Terberg Matec said they were delighted to have recently secured the order for one of the largest fleet renewals in North Wales over the past two years.
This accomplishment is a testament to our dedication to delivering innovative and reliable waste management vehicles to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of local operations.
The vehicle naming competition reflects our shared values in fostering community participation and environmental consciousness. It showcases our mutual dedication to creating positive impacts beyond the mere functionality of refuse collection vehicles.
Schools can enter as many names as they wish, and individual entries must be submitted via the online form on https://www.denbighshire.gov.uk/name-the-recycling-fleet
Sam Rowlands AS yn galw ar blant ysgol yn Sir Ddinbych i fod yn greadigol
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn annog ysgolion i gymryd rhan mewn cystadleuaeth i enwi fflyd ailgylchu newydd Sir Ddinbych.
Mae Cyngor Sir Ddinbych yn derbyn 21 o gerbydau ailgylchu newydd, gan gynnwys tri cherbyd trydan, ac mae am i blant ysgol y sir eu henwi.
Meddai Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Llywodraeth Leol yr Wrthblaid a chefnogwr brwd o blaid annog cynghorau i gynnwys y cyhoedd mewn penderfyniadau:
Rwy’n meddwl ei bod hi'n syniad gwych gofyn i blant ysgol lleol feddwl am enwau creadigol ar gyfer y cerbydau newydd.
Nid yn unig y bydd yn parhau i godi ymwybyddiaeth o ailgylchu ond bydd hefyd yn annog disgyblion i ddysgu mwy am yr amgylchedd.
Agorodd y ceisiadau ar gyfer y gystadleuaeth ddydd Llun 4 Medi, sy'n cyd-fynd â dechrau'r tymor ysgol newydd a byddwn yn annog ysgolion i annog eu plant i gymryd rhan yn y gystadleuaeth.
Cynhelir y gystadleuaeth tan 30 Medi a gwahoddir plant ysgol Sir Ddinbych i gyflwyno eu henwau creadigol ar gyfer y lorïau ailgylchu yn Gymraeg neu Saesneg. Mae pedwar categori: Blynyddoedd 1-2; Blynyddoedd 3-6; Blynyddoedd 7-9 a chategori teilyngdod arbennig i blant a phobl ifanc ag anghenion addysgol arbennig.
Bydd yr enwau buddugol yn cael eu hargraffu ar y cerbydau newydd, a bydd cyfle i'r disgyblion gael tynnu eu llun gyda'r cerbyd maen nhw wedi’i enwi.
Mae'r fflyd newydd wedi'i phrynu i gymryd lle'r hen fflyd ac mae'n rhan o ystod o fesurau y mae'r Cyngor yn eu cymryd i gyrraedd targed ailgylchu'r sir o 70%.
Dywedodd llefarydd ar ran Terberg Matec eu bod yn falch iawn o fod wedi sicrhau'r archeb yn ddiweddar ar gyfer un o’r rhaglenni adnewyddu fflyd fwyaf yng Ngogledd Cymru dros y ddwy flynedd ddiwethaf.
Mae'r cyflawniad hwn yn dyst o'n hymroddiad i ddarparu cerbydau rheoli gwastraff arloesol a dibynadwy i wella effeithlonrwydd a chynaliadwyedd gweithrediadau lleol.
Mae'r gystadleuaeth enwi cerbydau yn adlewyrchu ein gwerthoedd cyffredin wrth feithrin cyfranogiad cymunedol ac ymwybyddiaeth amgylcheddol. Mae'n dangos ein hymroddiad ar y cyd i greu effeithiau cadarnhaol y tu hwnt i ymarferoldeb cerbydau casglu sbwriel yn unig.
Gall ysgolion nodi cymaint o enwau ag y dymunant, a rhaid cyflwyno ceisiadau unigol drwy'r ffurflen ar-lein ar https://www.denbighshire.gov.uk/cy/biniau-ac-ailgylchu/ffurflenni/enwir-loriau-ailgylchu.aspx
