Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales has slammed Welsh Government for failing to consult car manufacturers before introducing 20mph speed limits across Wales.
Mr Rowlands is a harsh critic of the recently implemented 20mph speed limit on many arterial roads and continues to campaign for it to be scrapped.
He said:
Everybody knows that this new legislation was ill thought out and without public backing, and now we have learnt that there was no consultation with car manufacturers over this issue.
Surely, with a such a significant change proposed, any sensible government should have discussed the affect this would have on vehicle technology.
Not that I am surprised as there seems to have been very little in the way of sensible consultation with people whose input matter.
My inbox is still overflowing with angry and frustrated motorists who continue to complain about the 20mph speed limits.
One of my constituents, who has road sign detection and display on his vehicle, has been in touch with Ford Motor Company as he has noticed that the car display defaults to 30mph after travelling 400 yards in a 20mph area.
In an email Ford told him the issue is likely to be addressed across the next 18 to 24 months and said ‘with the Welsh Government making their recent changes, we as a manufacturer, need time to make adjustments. in ideal situations, governments would give fair warnings to manufacturers and the business who would likely be impacted by changes in laws.’
My constituent has quite rightly pointed out that this ridiculous policy could lead to people getting fined and points on their licence if they have an incorrect reading on their car display.
The whole thing is a complete farce and as usual it is the people going about their daily lives who will suffer.
Sam Rowlands AS yn tynnu sylw at ddiffyg ymgynghori pellach ynghylch cyflwyno terfynau cyflymder 20mya
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o'r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, wedi beirniadu Llywodraeth Cymru am fethu ag ymgynghori â gwneuthurwyr ceir cyn cyflwyno terfynau cyflymder 20mya ledled Cymru.
Mae Mr Rowlands yn feirniad llym o'r terfyn cyflymder 20mya a gyflwynwyd yn ddiweddar ar lawer o ffyrdd ac mae'n parhau i ymgyrchu dros gael gwared arno.
Meddai:
Mae pawb yn gwybod na chafodd y ddeddfwriaeth newydd hon ei hystyried yn briodol ac nad oes ganddi gefnogaeth gyhoeddus, a nawr rydyn ni wedi dysgu na fu ymgynghori â gweithgynhyrchwyr ceir ar y mater hwn.
Wrth reswm, gyda newid mor sylweddol yn cael ei gynnig, dylai unrhyw lywodraeth synhwyrol fod wedi trafod yr effaith y byddai hyn yn ei chael ar dechnoleg cerbydau.
Nid bod hyn yn syndod gan ei bod yn ymddangos mai ychydig iawn o ymgynghori synhwyrol sydd wedi bod gyda phobl sydd â mewnbwn pwysig.
Mae fy mewnflwch yn dal i orlifo gyda negeseuon gan yrwyr rhwystredig a dig sy'n parhau i gwyno am y terfynau cyflymder 20mya.
Mae un o fy etholwyr, sydd â dyfais canfod a dangos arwyddion ffyrdd ar ei gerbyd, wedi cysylltu â Ford Motor Company gan ei fod wedi sylwi bod y dangosydd yn dychwelyd i ddangos 30mya yn ddiofyn ar ôl teithio 400 llath mewn ardal 20mya.
Mewn e-bost, dywedodd Ford wrtho fod y mater yn debygol o gael sylw dros y 18 i 24 mis nesaf, gan ddweud, 'with the Welsh Government making their recent changes, we as a manufacturer, need time to make adjustments. in ideal situations, governments would give fair warnings to manufacturers and the business who would likely be impacted by changes in laws.’
Mae fy etholwr wedi tynnu sylw at y ffaith y gallai'r polisi chwerthinllyd hwn arwain at bobl yn cael dirwy a phwyntiau ar eu trwydded os yw dangosydd eu car yn dangos y cyflymder anghywir.
Mae'r holl beth yn hurt bost ac, fel sy’n digwydd fel arfer, y bobl sy'n ceisio byw eu bywydau bob dydd fydd yn dioddef.
