Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has welcomed news that a Welsh contestant coped in a TV Survival programme thanks to spending time outdoors.
Mr Rowlands, whose Outdoor Education Bill is currently going through Welsh Parliament said:
I was delighted to read about Naomi Allsworth who has been taking part in the extreme survival programme ‘Alone’ and how spending time in the Welsh Hills in Pembrokeshire helped her cope with the challenges.
In a newspaper article she said she used to spend a lot of time outdoors which stood her in good stead for the survival programme.
As everyone knows, I passionately believe in outdoor education for all our young people yet sadly, too many of them do not get the opportunity to participate.
I have an aspiration that all children in Wales should be given access to an Outdoor Education residential visit at least once in their school career, regardless of where they live and their family background and that is why I proposed the Outdoor Education (Wales) Bill.
Its aim is to move residential outdoor education from an enrichment activity to an entitlement within Wales’ curriculum.
‘Alone’ featured 11 individuals who were dropped in Canada’s remote wilderness and they competed to survive as long as possible on their own.
Sam Rowlands AS yn falch o weld rhaglen deledu yn tynnu sylw at addysg awyr agored
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, wedi croesawu'r newyddion bod cystadleuydd o Gymru wedi ymdopi mewn rhaglen Oroesi ar y teledu diolch i dreulio amser yn yr awyr agored.
Meddai Mr Rowlands, y mae ei Fesur Addysg Awyr Agored yn mynd drwy’r Senedd ar hyn o bryd:
Roeddwn wrth fy modd yn darllen am Naomi Allsworth sydd wedi bod yn cymryd rhan yn y rhaglen goroesi eithafol 'Alone' a sut y gwnaeth treulio amser ar Fryniau Cymru yn Sir Benfro ei helpu i ymdopi â'r heriau.
Mewn erthygl papur newydd dywedodd ei bod yn arfer treulio llawer o amser yn yr awyr agored a oedd yn ei rhoi mewn sefyllfa dda ar gyfer y rhaglen oroesi.
Fel y gŵyr pawb, rwy'n credu'n angerddol mewn addysg awyr agored i'n holl bobl ifanc ond yn anffodus, nid oes llawer yn cael y cyfle i gymryd rhan.
Fy nyhead i yw y dylai pob plentyn yng Nghymru gael mynediad i ymweliad preswyl Addysg Awyr Agored o leiaf unwaith yn eu gyrfa ysgol, waeth ble maen nhw'n byw a'u cefndir teuluol a dyna pam y gwnes i gynnig y Bil Addysg Awyr Agored (Cymru).
Ei nod yw symud addysg breswyl awyr agored o fod yn weithgaredd cyfoethogi i fod yn hawl o fewn cwricwlwm Cymru.
Roedd 'Alone' yn cynnwys 11 o unigolion a ollyngwyd yn niffeithwch anghysbell Canada i gystadlu i oroesi cyhyd ag y bo modd ar eu pen eu hunain.
