Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has expressed his delight at the return of a major crime writing festival at the famous Gladstone’s Library.
Mr Rowlands has welcomed news of ‘Alibis in the Archive’ an annual celebration of all things crime being held in Hawarden from June 9-11.
He said:
I am delighted to see such a prestigious event attracting a star studded line-up of crime and detective authors being held in North Wales once again.
It is a wonderful opportunity to hear from top authors like Felix Francis, son of renowned writer, Dick Francis and many others who have written top selling crime books.
It is a fantastic way of meeting authors in person and fellow crime writing fans face to face. Not to mention spending time in a historic and excellent library, it is truly a fitting venue for such an event.
"Alibis in the Archive" is hosted in collaboration with the Crime Writers Association and features some of the best crime writers in the business.
Among other guest speakers will be Martin Edwards, former chair of the Crime Writers’ Association and author of ‘Sepulchre Street,’ the latest in the Rachel Savernake series. He will also be paying tribute to 70 Years of the Crime Writers’ Association .
The Association began on Guy Fawkes Day, November 5, in 1953, when the prolific author John Creasey convened a meeting of a few fellow authors which led to the formation of the Crime Writers’ Association.
The CWA’s archives are held at Gladstone’s Library and as part of the 70th birthday celebrations, archivist, anthologist and former CWA chair Martin Edwards will draw on his unrivalled knowledge of the organisation in a talk which delves behind the scenes and features leading figures ranging from Enid Blyton and P.D. James to Ian Rankin and Ann Cleeves.

Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, wedi mynegi ei falchder bod gŵyl o bwys sy’n canolbwyntio ar ysgrifennu am droseddau’n dychwelyd i Lyfrgell enwog Gladstone.
Mae Mr Rowlands wedi croesawu'r newyddion am 'Alibis in the Archive', sef dathliad blynyddol o’r holl lenyddiaeth am drosedd sy'n cael ei gynnal ym Mhenarlâg rhwng 9-11 Mehefin.
Meddai:
Rwy'n falch iawn o weld digwyddiad mor fawreddog sy'n denu awduron trosedd a ditectif o fri yn cael ei gynnal yn y Gogledd unwaith eto.
Mae'n gyfle gwych i glywed gan awduron blaenllaw fel Felix Francis, mab yr awdur enwog, Dick Francis a llawer o rai eraill sydd wedi ysgrifennu llyfrau hynod boblogaidd am drosedd.
Mae'n ffordd wych o gwrdd ag awduron a phobl eraill sydd wrth eu bodd gydag ysgrifennu am drosedd wyneb yn wyneb. Heb sôn am dreulio amser mewn llyfrgell hanesyddol wych, does dim dwywaith ei fod yn lleoliad penigamp ar gyfer digwyddiad o'r fath.
Cynhelir 'Alibis in the Archive' mewn cydweithrediad â'r Gymdeithas Awduron Trosedd ac mae'n rhoi llwyfan i rai o'r awduron trosedd gorau yn y maes.
Ymhlith y siaradwyr gwadd eraill bydd Martin Edwards, cyn-gadeirydd y Gymdeithas Awduron Trosedd ac awdur 'Sepulchre Street', y diweddaraf yng nghyfres Rachel Savernake. Bydd yn talu teyrnged i 70 Mlynedd o'r Gymdeithas Awduron Trosedd hefyd.
Dechreuodd y Gymdeithas ar Ddiwrnod Guto Ffowc, 5 Tachwedd, ym 1953, pan gynhaliodd yr awdur toreithiog John Creasey gyfarfod gydag ambell gydawdur a arweiniodd at ffurfio'r Gymdeithas Awduron Trosedd.
Cedwir archifau'r Gymdeithas Awduron Trosedd yn Llyfrgell Gladstone ac fel rhan o’r dathliadau pen-blwydd 70 oed, bydd archifydd, golygydd a chyn-gadeirydd y Gymdeithas, Martin Edwards, yn rhannu ei wybodaeth heb ei hail am y sefydliad mewn sgwrs sy'n bwrw golwg y tu ôl i'r llenni ac yn trafod ffigurau blaenllaw yn amrywio o Enid Blyton a P.D. James i Ian Rankin ac Ann Cleeves.
