Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, urges constituents to take extra precautions when out walking in hills and mountains this winter.
Mr Rowlands recently met volunteers from the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue organisation who regularly get called out to rescue climbers and walkers on the mountains.
Mr Rowlands is now backing a campaign to encourage people to take extra care when out walking at this time of the year.
He said:
It was great to meet up with members of the OVMRO and talk to them about the role they play assisting those who are lost or injured in and around Ogwen Valley.
The volunteers work alongside emergency services providing vital and important assistance and are called out in all weathers rescuing walkers or climbers.
I was delighted to hear earlier this year that the North Wales Mountain Rescue Association, which includes the OVMRO, was awarded the Volunteer Award at the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Awards Ceremony.
I was so impressed with the work they carry out I wrote to congratulate them on their success and thank them for all their hard work.
Mr Rowlands is now helping promote the #beadventuresmart campaign which encourages people to take extra measures when they head out to the hills and mountains, especially in winter.
The initiative encourages people to make sure they have the right gear, skills, knowledge and a greater understanding of the weather before setting off.
OVMRO continues to be one of the busiest Mountain Rescue Teams in the country assisting the Police and Ambulance authorities with rough terrain search and rescue in Northern Snowdonia.
Its members are on stand-by 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year giving their time for free to assist fellow users of the great outdoors who have come to grief. For more information about the campaign go to https://www.adventuresmart.uk/be-adventure-smart-in-winter/
Sam Rowlands AS yn ymweld â thîm Achub Mynydd Dyffryn Ogwen
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn annog etholwyr i fod yn arbennig o ofalus wrth gerdded y bryniau a’r mynyddoedd y gaeaf hwn.
Yn ddiweddar cyfarfu Mr Rowlands â gwirfoddolwyr o sefydliad Achub Mynydd Dyffryn Ogwen sy'n cael eu galw'n rheolaidd i achub dringwyr a cherddwyr ar y mynyddoedd.
Mae Mr Rowlands yn cefnogi ymgyrch yn awr i annog pobl i fod yn ofalus tu hwnt wrth gerdded yr adeg hon o'r flwyddyn.
Meddai:
Roedd hi’n wych cyfarfod ag aelodau o dîm Sefydliad Achub Mynydd Dyffryn Ogwen a siarad gyda nhw am eu gwaith yn cynorthwyo'r rhai sydd ar goll neu wedi'u hanafu yn Nyffryn Ogwen a'r cyffiniau.
Mae'r gwirfoddolwyr yn gweithio ochr yn ochr â'r gwasanaethau brys gan ddarparu cymorth hanfodol a phwysig, a gelwir arnynt ym mhob tywydd i achub cerddwyr neu ddringwyr.
Roeddwn i’n falch iawn o glywed yn gynharach eleni fod Cymdeithas Achub Mynydd Gogledd Cymru, sy'n cynnwys tîm Dyffryn Ogwen, wedi ennill y Wobr Gwirfoddolwyr yn Seremoni Gwobrau Cymunedol Comisiynydd Heddlu a Throsedd Gogledd Cymru.
Gwnaeth y gwaith maen nhw’n ei wneud argraff fawr arnaf fi ac ysgrifennais i'w llongyfarch ar eu llwyddiant a diolch iddyn nhw am eu holl waith caled.
Mae Mr Rowlands yn helpu i hyrwyddo’r ymgyrch #beadventuresmart erbyn hyn, sy'n annog pobl i fod yn arbennig o ofalus pan fyddan nhw’n crwydro'r bryniau a'r mynyddoedd, yn enwedig yn y gaeaf.
Mae'r fenter yn annog pobl i sicrhau bod yr offer, y sgiliau, y wybodaeth a dealltwriaeth well o'r tywydd ganddyn nhw cyn cychwyn.
Mae Sefydliad Achub Mynydd Dyffryn Ogwen yn parhau i fod yn un o'r Timau Achub Mynydd prysuraf yn y wlad sy'n cynorthwyo'r Heddlu ac Awdurdodau Ambiwlans wrth chwilio ac achub ar dir garw yng Ngogledd Eryri.
