Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, says Welsh Government’s argument for the new ludicrous 20mph is falling apart.
Mr Rowlands, a harsh critic of the introduction of the policy was commenting after it was revealed that a report from Newport City Council said that the switch could end up increasing air pollution.
He said:
It really is amazing that the Welsh Labour Government are continuing with this ridiculous policy. It is clearly time the whole idea was scrapped and motorists were left alone.
How anyone can think that constantly changing gear and braking is not going to affect air pollution is beyond belief.
It has been over a month since the bonkers speed limit was introduced feelings are still running high across Wales, there is a lot of anger and frustration.
Labour need to make a u-turn immediately and admit the whole policy has been a complete and utter disaster. It has to be scrapped.
Sam Rowlands AS yn rhybuddio y bydd 20mya yn cynyddu lefelau llygredd aer
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn dweud nad yw dadl Llywodraeth Cymru dros y 20mya chwerthinllyd newydd yn dal dŵr.
Gwnaeth Mr Rowlands, beirniad llym o gyflwyno'r polisi, y sylw ar ôl clywed bod adroddiad gan Gyngor Dinas Casnewydd yn dweud y gallai'r newid gynyddu llygredd aer yn y pen draw.
Meddai:
Mae'n wirioneddol anhygoel bod Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru yn parhau gyda'r polisi chwerthinllyd hwn. Mae'n amlwg ei bod yn hen bryd cael gwared ar yr holl syniad a rhoi llonydd i fodurwyr.
Sut gall unrhyw un feddwl nad yw newid gêr a brecio yn gyson yn mynd i effeithio ar lygredd aer.
Mae hi wedi bod dros fis bellach ers cyflwyno’r terfyn cyflymder hurt hwn ac mae teimladau'n dal yn gryf ledled Cymru, mae yna lawer o ddicter a rhwystredigaeth.
Mae angen i Lafur wneud tro pedol ar unwaith a chyfaddef bod y polisi cyfan wedi bod yn drychineb llwyr. Mae'n rhaid ei ddileu.
