Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has welcomed news that Gladstone’s Library has been awarded £777,246 of funding by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
Mr Rowlands said:
I am a great supporter of this fantastic library and delighted that the National Heritage Memorial Fund has chosen to support repairs to this historic building.
Gladstone’s Library is an extremely important building and a national attraction housing an excellent and famous collection of books.
It is also good to see such an extremely valuable part of our heritage receiving financial support and will no doubt encourage even more people from far and wide to study and visit.
The Grade I listed library in Hawarden, is known as one of the most important research libraries in Wales and is home to internationally significant collections.
The funding will support major repairs to the entrance porch, roof, the Reading Room ceiling and some external windows, all of which was postponed or cancelled during the pandemic.
The grant to Gladstones’s Library is part of £4.1 million worth of funding for heritage projects in Wales, which also includes £2.2m awarded to Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales.
Dr Simon Thurley CBE, Chair of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, said:
We’re tremendously proud to have provided a lifeline for some of Wales’ incredible heritage sites and assets through the COVID-19 Response Fund, helping them to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic.
Sam Rowlands yn falch o weld buddsoddiad yn Llyfrgell Gladstone, Penarlâg
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd, wedi croesawu'r newyddion bod Llyfrgell Gladstone wedi derbyn £777,246 o gyllid gan Gronfa Goffa’r Dreftadaeth Genedlaethol.
Meddai Mr Rowlands:
Dwi'n cefnogi'r llyfrgell wych hon i’r carn a dwi wrth fy modd bod Cronfa Goffa'r Dreftadaeth Genedlaethol wedi dewis cefnogi gwaith atgyweirio ar yr adeilad hanesyddol hwn.
Mae Llyfrgell Gladstone yn adeilad hynod bwysig ac yn atyniad cenedlaethol sy'n gartref i gasgliad gwych ac enwog o lyfrau.
Hefyd, mae’n dda gweld rhan mor werthfawr o'n treftadaeth yn derbyn cymorth ariannol a byddwn yn sicr yn annog hyd yn oed mwy o bobl o bell ac agos i astudio ac ymweld â hi.
Mae'r llyfrgell restredig Gradd I ym Mhenarlâg, yn adnabyddus fel un o'r llyfrgelloedd ymchwil pwysicaf yng Nghymru ac mae'n gartref i gasgliadau o bwys rhyngwladol.
Bydd y cyllid yn cefnogi gwaith atgyweirio mawr i borth y fynedfa, y to, nenfwd yr Ystafell Ddarllen a rhai ffenestri allanol, ar ôl i’r gwaith i gyd gael ei ohirio neu ei ganslo yn ystod y pandemig.
Mae'r grant i Lyfrgell Gladstone yn rhan o £4.1 miliwn o gyllid ar gyfer prosiectau treftadaeth yng Nghymru, sy’n cynnwys £2.2m a ddyfarnwyd i Gastell Gwrych yn Abergele hefyd.
Meddai Dr Simon Thurley CBE, Cadeirydd Cronfa Goffa'r Dreftadaeth Genedlaethol:
Rydyn ni’n falch iawn ein bod wedi cynnig achubiaeth i rai o safleoedd treftadaeth ac asedau anhygoel Cymru drwy Gronfa Ymateb COVID-19, gan eu helpu i liniaru effeithiau'r pandemig.
