Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales has welcomed a move to encourage more of us to talk about dementia.
Mr Rowlands, was commenting after it was announced that a special screening of films for better understanding dementia are being held in Broughton and Llandudno Junction cinemas.
He said:
As a keen supporter of any development which ultimately helps and supports people suffering from dementia and their families, it is great to see the screening of these films to highlight this dreadful disease.
The films were first shown in March this year thanks to North Wales Police and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board joining forces to produce them.
I am delighted to see that following the successful launch the films are now going to be shown at Cineworld cinemas in Broughton and Llandudno Junction. There will also be an opportunity to take part in a question and answer session on health and policing issues and how they can affect people suffering from dementia.
I would urge anyone wanting to find out more about dementia and how it affects lives to attend the screening of the films. I am also pleased to support the Herbert Protocol.
The two screenings will take place thanks to funding from the North Wales Police Crime Commissioner, Andy Dunbobbin, at Cineworld Broughton Shopping Park, on June 11 from 3-5pm, and at Cineworld Llandudno, Llandudno Junction, on October 1 from 3-5pm.
The showings will be followed by a question and answer session on the health and policing issues that can affect people living with dementia, or their families.
The idea for the films came from Professor Tracey Williamson, Consultant Nurse for Dementia at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board who said: “Through the films we hope to create a better understanding of dementia in North Wales and beyond, including how to get checked and live as well as possible with the condition.”
The films were funded by the Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Division, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and match-funded by Eternal Media Ltd with the aim of the films gaining maximum reach across North Wales and beyond.
Everybody is welcome to join the planned events and admission is free. There will be an information stand on the day for useful literature about dementia.

Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros y Gogledd wedi croesawu cam i annog mwy ohonom ni i siarad am ddementia.
Roedd Mr Rowlands yn gwneud sylwadau ar ôl y cyhoeddiad fod dangosiad arbennig o ffilmiau er mwyn deall dementia yn well yn cael ei gynnal yn sinemâu Brychdyn a Chyffordd Llandudno.
Meddai:
Fel cefnogwr brwd o unrhyw ddatblygiad sy’n helpu ac yn cefnogi pobl sy’n dioddef o ddementia a’u teuluoedd yn y pen draw, mae’n wych gweld y ffilmiau hyn yn cael eu sgrinio i dynnu sylw at y clefyd ofnadwy hwn.
Cafodd y ffilmiau eu dangos am y tro cyntaf ym mis Mawrth eleni diolch i Heddlu Gogledd Cymru a Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr wrth iddynt ymuno i’w cynhyrchu.
Rwy’n falch iawn o weld y bydd y ffilmiau’n cael eu dangos yn sinemâu Cineworld ym Mrychdyn a Chyffordd Llandudno yn dilyn y lansiad llwyddiannus. Bydd cyfle hefyd i gymryd rhan mewn sesiwn holi ac ateb ar faterion iechyd a phlismona a sut y gallant effeithio ar bobl sy’n dioddef o ddementia.
