Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales says the Welsh Labour Government have caused a housing crisis by failing to build enough homes.
Closing the Welsh Conservative Debate on solving the Welsh housing crisis, Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Local Government said:
Over 22 years of successive Welsh Labour Governments have failed on every single metric to build enough houses to meet the rising demand here in Wales. As point one of our motion states, Wales currently requires up to 12,000 new dwellings per year by 2031, to avoid people living in unsatisfactory conditions.
For my region of North Wales there should be around 1,600 homes being built every year for the next 20 years. And we're currently seeing around 1,200 homes being built.
Private developers have a huge role to play in ensuring we have the right number of houses here in Wales. They also need to have the right environment for them to invest in and ensure those houses are being built.
Mr Rowlands also called for the right to buy scheme in Wales to be restored:
Why not allow people to have their own home, a right to buy their own property that they live in? That is probably the most simple way of creating security of housing for people in Wales. We must do more to ensure that empty properties are being brought back into use.
Sam Rowlands AS yn galw am adeiladu mwy o dai yng Ngogledd Cymru
Yn ôl Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, mae Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru wedi achosi argyfwng tai trwy fethu ag adeiladu digon o dai.
Wrth gloi Dadl Ceidwadwyr Cymru ynglŷn â datrys yr argyfwng tai yng Nghymru, dyma a ddywedodd Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Lywodraeth Leol:
Dros 22 mlynedd yn olynol, mae Llywodraethau Llafur Cymru wedi methu gyda phob un metrig i adeiladu digon o dai i ddiwallu’r galw cynyddol yma yng Nghymru. Fel y nodir ym mhwynt un ein cynnig, ar hyn o bryd mae Cymru angen hyd at 12,000 o anheddau newydd y flwyddyn erbyn 2031 er mwyn sicrhau na fydd pobl yn byw mewn amodau anfoddhaol.
Ar gyfer fy rhanbarth i yn y Gogledd, dylid adeiladu oddeutu 1,600 o dai bob blwyddyn am yr 20 mlynedd nesaf. Ar hyn o bryd, rhyw 1,200 o gartrefi sy’n cael eu hadeiladu.
Mae datblygwyr preifat yn hollbwysig o ran sicrhau bod gennym y nifer iawn o dai yma yng Nghymru. Maen nhw hefyd angen yr amgylchedd iawn i fuddsoddi a sicrhau bod y tai hynny’n cael eu hadeiladu.
Galwodd Mr Rowlands am adfer y cynllun hawl i brynu yng Nghymru:
Pam na wnawn ni adael i bobl gael eu cartrefi eu hunain, hawl i brynu’r eiddo maen nhw’n byw ynddo? Dyna, yn ôl pob tebyg, y ffordd symlaf o greu sicrwydd tai i bobl Cymru. Rhaid inni wneud mwy i sicrhau bod eiddo gwag yn cael ei ddefnyddio unwaith eto.
