Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales wants more to be done to prevent flooding in parts of his region.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Local Government, has called on the Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Lee Waters, for him to consider developing a national flood agency.
He said:
Earlier this month, I did welcome your statement, or Welsh Government's statement, on flood and coastal erosion risk management in which it was suggested that Natural Resources Wales had a lot to do, and you mentioned it in terms of stretching of the resources.
With flooding being so detrimental to our communities and such a risk, especially with the climate change, what considerations have you given to developing a national flood agency to deal specifically with these risks?
The Deputy Minister said they would be looking at all the different bodies they already had to see how they can make the most of those before thinking about additional institutions to create and run.
Mr Rowlands added:
There are many areas in my region of North Wales where flooding occurs on a regular basis and I do not feel enough is being done to tackle the issue. It is about time Welsh Government considered a national approach to these problems.
Sam Rowlands AS yn gofyn pa ystyriaeth a roddwyd i ddatblygu asiantaeth lifogydd genedlaethol i ymdrin â llifogydd yn y Gogledd
Mae Sam Rowlands AS dros Ogledd Cymru am weld mwy’n cael ei wneud i atal llifogydd mewn rhannau o’i ranbarth.
Mae Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Lywodraeth Leol, wedi galw ar y Dirprwy Weinidog Newid Hinsawdd, Lee Waters, i ystyried datblygu asiantaeth lifogydd genedlaethol.
Meddai:
Yn gynharach y mis hwn croesewais eich datganiad, neu ddatganiad Llywodraeth Cymru, ar reoli perygl llifogydd ac erydu arfordirol lle’r awgrymwyd bod gan Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru lawer i’w wneud, ac fe wnaethoch grybwyll hynny mewn perthynas ag ymestyn yr adnoddau.
Gan fod llifogydd mor andwyol i’n cymunedau ac yn gymaint o risg, yn enwedig gyda’r newid yn yr hinsawdd, pa ystyriaeth ydych chi wedi’i rhoi i ddatblygu asiantaeth lifogydd genedlaethol i ymdrin yn benodol â’r risgiau hyn?
Dywedodd y Dirprwy Weinidog y byddent yn edrych ar yr holl wahanol gyrff oedd ganddynt eisoes i weld sut y gallent wneud y gorau o’r cyrff hynny cyn meddwl am greu a rhedeg sefydliadau ychwanegol.
Ychwanegodd Mr Rowlands:
Mae nifer o ardaloedd yn fy rhanbarth i o’r Gogledd yn dioddef llifogydd yn rheolaidd ac nid wyf yn teimlo bod digon yn cael ei wneud i fynd i’r afael â’r broblem. Mae’n hen bryd i Lywodraeth Cymru ystyried dull cenedlaethol o ymdrin â’r problemau hyn.
