Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales has welcomed a new badge to encourage Scouts to learn more about seafaring.
Mr Rowlands recently joined fellow members of the Welsh Parliament at the launch of ScoutsCymru Mission to Seafarers programme at the Senedd.
He said:
I was delighted to attend the event and hear more about the success of the Scout movement in Wales and details about its partnership with the Mission to Seafarers.
As a former Cub myself I am a great supporter of anything which encourages children and young people to learn new skills and ScoutsCymru certainly offers fantastic opportunities. There is something for all ages starting with the Squirrels for 4-5 year olds up to Network Scouts for 18-25 years.
I was amazed to hear that each week, in Wales, ScoutsCymru give over 12,000 young people the chance to have fun and adventure while also developing skills for the future. It is an excellent movement and deserves all our support for the future.
The event launched a programme developed in partnership between ScoutsCymru and Mission to Seafarers.
The Mission to Seafarers is a charity who support seafarers all over the world, making sure that they have access to amenities and a comfortable place to rest whilst they are away from their home. They also offer a listening ear to those in need, making sure that their mental and spiritual wellbeing is looked after.
The new programme, which explores the world of seafaring, includes a new ScoutsCymru Badge for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts as well as a Top Awards pathway for Explorers to achieve top awards such as their Queen's Scout Award.
It also enables children and young people to learn about seafaring, make an impact on their local communities, and explore important topics such as sustainability, diversity, trade, wellbeing and many more.

Roeddwn i’n falch iawn o fynychu a chlywed mwy am lwyddiant y mudiad Sgowtiaid yng Nghymru a manylion am eu partneriaeth â’r Mission to Seafarers.
Fel cyn Gwb fy hun, rwy’n frwd iawn dros unrhyw beth sy’n annog plant a phobl ifanc i ddysgu sgiliau newydd ac mae ScoutsCymru yn sicr yn cynnig cyfleoedd rhagorol. Mae rhywbeth i bob oedran gan ddechrau gyda’r Gwiwerod ar gyfer plant 4 i 5 oed hyd at y Sgowtiaid Rhwydwaith ar gyfer pobl ifanc 18-25 oed.
Roeddwn i wedi rhyfeddu i glywed bod ScoutsCymru yn rhoi’r cyfle i dros 12,000 o bobl ifanc yng Nghymru i gael hwyl ac antur tra hefyd yn datblygu sgiliau ar gyfer y dyfodol. Mae’n fudiad gwerth chweil ac yn haeddu ein holl gefnogaeth ar gyfer y dyfodol.
Yn y digwyddiad lansiwyd rhaglen sydd wedi’i darparu mewn partneriaeth rhwng ScoutsCymru a’r Mission to Seafarers.
Elusen yw’r Mission to Seafarers sy’n cefnogi morwyr bedwar ban byd, gan ofalu fod ganddynt fynediad at amwynderau a lle cyfforddus i orffwys pan fyddant oddi cartref. Maent hefyd yn cynnig clust i’r rhai sydd ei hangen, gan ofalu bod eu lles meddyliol ac ysbrydol yn cael sylw.
Mae’r rhaglen newydd, sy’n archwilio bywyd ar y môr, yn cynnwys Bathodyn ScoutsCymru newydd ar gyfer Afancod, Cybiau a Sgowtiaid yn ogystal â llwybr Prif Wobrau ar gyfer Chwilotwyr i ennill prif wobrau fel Gwobr Sgowtiaid y Frenhines.
Mae hefyd yn galluogi plant a phobl ifanc i ddysgu am fywyd ar y môr, cael effaith ar eu cymunedau lleol a phwyso a mesur pynciau pwysig fel cynaliadwyedd, amrywiaeth, masnach, lles a llawer mwy.
