Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales and Virginia Crosbie MP for Ynys Môn want to see the port of Holyhead benefitting from Brexit.
Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative and member of the Welsh Parliament was commenting during a recent visit to Anglesey.
He said:
Now that Brexit is done we need to look at the many opportunities this will bring to North Wales especially the ferry port of Holyhead.
We need to continue to support calls to make more use of this working port as it is ideally placed to be set up as a freeport which would bring many positive opportunities for the island and North Wales.
If it became a freeport, which is something I fully support, then it certainly would help make the most of the new trade agreements available to the UK and bring prosperity to the area.
Ms Crosbie, Conservative MP said:
I think it would be a wonderful for the future of Holyhead if it became a freeport and I welcome any moves for this to go ahead.
Brexit has now happened and we need to be moving forward and making the most of the opportunities it will present.
Ports like Holyhead have a vital role to play in our future and helping to create a stronger economy, not only for the island but across North Wales.
Sam Rowlands AS a Virginia Crosbie AS yn ymweld â phorthladd Caergybi
Mae Sam Rowlands AS dros Ogledd Cymru a Virginia Crosbie AS San Steffan dros Ynys Môn am weld porthladd Caergybi yn elwa ar Brexit.
Roedd Mr Rowlands, aelod o’r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn y Senedd yn gwneud sylwadau yn ystod ymweliad diweddar ag Ynys Môn.
Meddai:
Nawr bod Brexit wedi digwydd, mae angen i ni edrych ar y cyfleoedd lu a fydd yn dod i’r Gogledd yn ei sgil, yn enwedig i borthladd fferïau Caergybi.
Mae angen i ni barhau i gefnogi’r galw i ddefnyddio mwy ar y porthladd gwaith hwn gan ei fod mewn lleoliad delfrydol i’w sefydlu fel porthladd rhydd ar gyfer yr ynys a’r Gogledd.
Pe bai’n borthladd rhydd, sy’n rhywbeth rwy’n llwyr o’i blaid, does dim dwywaith y byddai’n helpu i fanteisio i’r eithaf ar y cytundebau masnach newydd sydd ar gael i’r DU a dod a ffyniant i’r ardal.
Meddai Ms Crosbie, AS dros y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig:
Byddai’n wych i ddyfodol Caergybi pe bae’n dod yn borthladd rhydd ac rwy’n croesawu unrhyw gamau i fwrw ymlaen gyda hyn.
Mae Brexit wedi digwydd ac mae angen i ni symud ymlaen a manteisio i’r eithaf ar y cyfleoedd a ddaw yn ei sgil.
Mae gan borthladdoedd fel Caergybi rôl hanfodol yn ein dyfodol a helpu i greu economi gryfach, nid yn unig ar gyfer yr ynys ond y Gogledd i gyd.
