Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales shared his memories of the monarch during the Welsh Parliament’s Motion of condolence and tributes to Her Majesty The Queen.
Speaking in the Senedd, Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative and a member of the Welsh Parliament praised the Queen for her ability to bring people together.
He said:
When I was a teenager, the Queen visited my school in Colwyn Bay, Eirias Park. What struck me from this visit was the breadth of people who came to see her, all people from different ages, different backgrounds, different races, different creeds. Even in my younger age, as a teenager, I realised that she was a uniting figure, somebody who brought people together.
This was again exemplified during the COVID lockdowns. Her Majesty gave an incredibly moving speech that, for me personally, gave me great strength through a very difficult time for my family and I will quote the lines that really struck a chord with me. Her Majesty said: 'Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it. We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.'
Those words were so important for so many at that time, and united us together again. Her power and ability to unite was a clear demonstration of the level at which she conducted herself, changing with the times as she needed to, earning the respect and admiration of so many.
The other area that I would like to pay tribute to is the example of service and duty. She set a great example for us all and carried out her role with dignity and respect, serving her country and her people right until the very end.
Her Majesty worked with 15 Prime Ministers, conducted tens of thousands of royal engagements, was patron and president of over 600 charities, and of course was our longest reigning monarch of all time.
Her Majesty set the best possible example to every single one of us. When I took my oath of allegiance to be sworn in as a Member of this Welsh Parliament, it was the utmost pleasure to swear my allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty devoted her life to this country, a rock for so many for so long. Thank you, Ma'am, for your unwavering service, and God save the King.
Teyrnged Sam Rowlands AS i'w Mawrhydi y Frenhines Elizabeth II yn y Senedd
Bu Sam Rowlands AS Gogledd Cymru yn rhannu ei atgofion o'r frenhines yn ystod cynnig cydymdeimlo a theyrngedau Senedd Cymru i'w Mawrhydi y Frenhines.
Wrth siarad yn y Senedd, fe wnaeth Mr Rowlands, aelod o'r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig a Senedd Cymru ganmol y Frenhines am ei gallu i ddod â phobl at ei gilydd.
Meddai:
Pan oeddwn yn fy arddegau, daeth y Frenhines draw i ymweld â fy ysgol ym Mharc Eirias, Bae Colwyn. Yr hyn a'm trawodd i oedd y fath amrywiaeth o bobl oedd yno i'w chyfarfod, pobl o bob oed, cefndir, hil a chred gwahanol. Hyd yn oed adeg hynny, fel bachgen ifanc, sylweddolais ei bod hi'n berson a oedd yn uno pobl, yn dod â phobl at ei gilydd.
Daeth hyn i'r amlwg eto yn ystod cyfnodau clo COVID. Cyflwynodd Ei Mawrhydi araith hynod deimladwy a roddodd gryfder mawr i mi'n bersonol mewn cyfnod anodd iawn i fy nheulu, ac rwy'n dyfynnu'r llinellau wnaeth daro tant gyda mi. Meddai Ei Mawrhydi: 'Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it. We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.'
Roedd y geiriau hynny mor bwysig i gymaint bryd hynny, ac yn ein huno ni gyda'n gilydd eto. Roedd ei grym a'i gallu i uno yn brawf clir o'i lefel o ymddygiad ac ymarweddiad, a'i gallu i newid gyda'r oes, gan ennill parch ac edmygedd cynifer.
Elfen arall yr hoffwn dalu teyrnged iddi yw'r esiampl o wasanaeth a dyletswydd. Gosododd esiampl wych i ni i gyd gan gyflawni ei rôl gyda pharch ac urddas, gan wasanaethu ei gwlad a'i phobl tan y diwedd un.
Gweithiodd Ei Mawrhydi gyda 15 o Brif Weinidogion, cynhaliwyd degau o filoedd o ymrwymiadau brenhinol, roedd yn noddwr ac yn llywydd drs 600 o elusennau, ac wrth gwrs hi oedd y brenin neu’r frenhines sydd wedi teyrnasu am y cyfnod hiraf erioed ym Mhrydain.
Mae Ei Mawrhydi yn gosod yr esiampl orau bosib i bob un ohonom. Pan dyngais lw o deyrngarwch fel Aelod o'r Senedd hon, pleser mwyaf oedd tyngu fy nheyrngarwch i'w Mawrhydi Brenhines Elizabeth II. Neilltuodd Ei Mawrhydi ei bywyd i'r wlad hon, a bu’n graig i gymaint am gymaint o amser. Diolch i chi, Ma'am, am eich gwasanaeth diysgog, a Duw a gadwo'r Brenin!
