Sam Rowlands MS for North Wales is urging his constituents to make sure they take up the offer of a Covid booster jab.
Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative and member of the Welsh Parliament, was commenting after Betsi Cadwallader University Health Board said its vaccination programme was well underway.
He said:
As winter is fast approaching and we hear about Covid cases increasing I would urge people to seek this extra protection.
It is vital we protect people, ourselves and those who are at risk and it is important that we continue to reduce Covid cases and help those who are most vulnerable to serious infection.
The booster will help those who have a higher risk of contracting Covid, improve their protection and will ultimately cut down on hospital admissions therefore easing pressure on our already stretched health services in North Wales.
Figures from the health boards show 70,666 doses of the vaccine were given in North Wales up to October 4. That brings the total number of COVID-19 doses delivered in the region to 1.7 million.
Teams have already visited 216 care homes across North Wales to vaccinate residents and staff, with 30 homes remaining. They have also vaccinated 2,097 housebound residents to date, with a further 2,852 to be vaccinated shortly. A further 102,414 appointments for the COVID-19 booster jab have been scheduled before the end of October.
The Autumn Booster Vaccination Campaign runs from September to mid-December and people will be invited in order of age and clinical priority. Those eligible do not need to contact the health board, they will receive their appointment invitation in due course.
