Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has called for more cross border collaboration to develop the hydrogen energy sector in Wales.
In Janet Finch-Saunders’ Senedd Short Debate, Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Local Government said:
I certainly want to echo the comments of colleagues in terms of support for this really important potential and future industry. In North Wales, in particular North-East Wales, there is a great opportunity to see this technology flourish.
I would like to put on record the good work being carried out by HyNet in North-East Wales, linking to North-West England. HyNet, is the UK's leading industrial decarbonisation project, and, from the mid 2020s, in the next few years, it will be producing, storing and distributing low-carbon hydrogen to replace fossil fuels in such an industrial part of the country.
It will also be capturing and locking up carbon dioxide emissions from industry as well. It is a very, very important piece of work taking place and billions of pounds have been invested into it as well. This really does highlight to me the importance of working collaboratively across the border.
Mr Rowlands urged Welsh Government to encourage the continued cross-border collaboration with the HyNet project in North-East Wales into the North-West of England.
Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi datblygu'r sector ynni hydrogen yma yng Nghymru
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o'r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, wedi galw am fwy o gydweithio ar draws ffiniau er mwyn datblygu'r sector ynni hydrogen yng Nghymru.
Yn ystod dadl fer Janet Finch-Saunders yn y Senedd, dywedodd Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Lywodraeth Leol:
Heb os nac oni bai, hoffwn adleisio sylwadau cydweithwyr o safbwynt cefnogi'r diwydiant hollbwysig hwn yn y dyfodol. Yng Ngogledd Cymru, yn enwedig y Gogledd-ddwyrain, mae cyfle gwych i weld y dechnoleg hon yn ffynnu.
Hoffwn gofnodi'r gwaith da sy'n cael ei wneud gan HyNet yn y Gogledd-ddwyrain, gan gysylltu â Gogledd-orllewin Lloegr. HyNet yw prif brosiect datgarboneiddio diwydiannol y DU, ac, o ganol y 2020au, yn ystod yr ychydig flynyddoedd nesaf, bydd yn cynhyrchu, storio a dosbarthu hydrogen carbon isel i ddisodli tanwyddau ffosil mewn rhan mor ddiwydiannol o'r wlad.
Bydd hefyd yn dal a chloi allyriadau carbon deuocsid o ddiwydiant hefyd. Mae'n ddarn pwysig iawn, iawn o waith ac mae biliynau o bunnoedd wedi eu buddsoddi ynddo hefyd. Mae hyn wir yn pwysleisio pwysigrwydd cydweithio trawsffiniol.
Anogodd Mr Rowlands Llywodraeth Cymru i barhau i gydweithio’n drawsffiniol gyda phrosiect HyNet yng ngogledd-ddwyrain Cymru i ogledd-orllewin Lloegr.
