Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is encouraging local people to attend an art exhibition celebrating the town, castle and coast ‘Off Flint’
The exhibition, which runs until August 29, has been created by young people attending Helen Taylor’s Art Club at Flint library.
Mr Rowlands said:
This is a great way to involve young people in their community and encourage them to show their creativity.
There is nothing better than actually seeing something you have produced on show and what a fantastic opportunity to take a look at the history of Flint in pictures. The library is also the focal point for the introduction of a new community archive.
What a great idea to encourage local people to get involved in collecting and sharing old photos, artefacts and everyday stories of Flint.
I would urge anyone interested in art and in the town to make sure they go along to Flint library, during opening hours, and take a look at the fantastic display.
Flint Library is hosting artwork on the theme of ‘Off Flint’ created by young people attending Helen Taylor’s Art Club at Flint Library.
The artists, who range in age from 7 to 14, began in November 2022 using acrylic paint on canvas to depict Flint Castle through art history movements including Mediaeval Art, Impressionism and Pop Art, with a little independent artistic licence!
They went on to draw the people who have lived and worked in Flint since the Castle was built to create a crowd montage.
As the project progressed the children produced more amazing artwork including a collaborative collage of birds of the Dee Estuary, fish in mixed media and illustrations of the ‘Sands of the River Dee’ poem by Charles Kingsley.
The final project looked at boats of the Dee Estuary through history to create a second collaborative canvas.
Helen Taylor is a professional artist who is inspired by J.M.W. Turner and loves to create atmospheric textural landscapes using acrylics. She regularly exhibits her work and currently has paintings on display in Mold, Qube in Oswestry, Life: Full Colour in Caernarfon and in the 2023 Liverpool Art Fair. Helen has been running art classes locally since 2011 and also works on a wide range of community art projects.
‘Off Flint’ aims to involve local people in recording, conserving and celebrating the rich heritage of Flint town, castle and coast. Individuals and groups are invited to get involved in collecting and sharing old photos, artefacts and everyday stories of Flint which will form the basis of a new community archive in Flint Library so that the information gathered is widely accessible to everyone. Informal drop-in sessions are held at Flint Library every Tuesday morning from 10.00am – 12 noon during term time.

Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Ogledd Cymru, yn annog pobl leol i fynychu arddangosfa gelf sy'n dathlu'r dref, y castell a'r arfordir sef arddangosfa 'Off Flint'.
Mae'r arddangosfa, sy'n para tan 29 Awst, wedi'i chreu gan bobl ifanc sy'n mynychu Clwb Celf Helen Taylor yn llyfrgell y Fflint.
Dywedodd Mr Rowlands:
Mae hon yn ffordd wych o gynnwys pobl ifanc yn eu cymuned a'u hannog i ddangos eu creadigrwydd.
Does dim byd gwell na gweld rhywbeth rydych chi wedi'i gynhyrchu yn cael ei arddangos, ac mae'n gwych i weld hanes y Fflint mewn lluniau. Mae'r llyfrgell hefyd yn ganolbwynt ar gyfer cyflwyno archif gymunedol newydd.
Am syniad gwych i annog pobl leol i gymryd rhan mewn casglu a rhannu hen luniau, arteffactau a straeon bob dydd y Fflint.
Byddwn yn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb mewn celf a hanes y dref i fynd draw i lyfrgell y Fflint, yn ystod oriau agor, ac i edrych ar yr arddangosfa wych.
Mae Llyfrgell y Fflint yn cynnal gwaith celf ar thema 'Off Flint' a grëwyd gan bobl ifanc sy'n mynychu Clwb Celf Helen Taylor yn Llyfrgell y Fflint.
Dechreuodd clwb yr artistiaid 7-14 oed ym mis Tachwedd 2022 gan ddefnyddio paent acrylig ar gynfas i ddarlunio Castell y Fflint trwy symudiadau hanes celf gan gynnwys Celf Ganoloesol, Argraffiadaeth a Chelfyddyd Bop, gyda'u stamp artistig eu hunain!
Fe ethon nhw mlaen i dynnu llun o'r bobl sydd wedi byw a gweithio yn y Fflint ers codi'r Castell, gan greu montage torfol.
Wrth i'r prosiect fynd rhagddo, fe wnaeth y plant greu gweithiau anhygoel gan gynnwys collage cydweithredol o adar Aber Afon Dyfrdwy, pysgod mewn cyfryngau cymysg a darluniau o gerdd 'Sands of the River Dee' gan Charles Kingsley.
Roedd y prosiect terfynol yn portreadu gychod Aber Afon Dyfrdwy drwy hanes i greu ail gynfas cydweithredol.
Mae Helen Taylor yn artist proffesiynol sydd wedi'i hysbrydoli gan J.M.W. Turner ac mae wrth ei bodd yn creu tirweddau atmosfferig gweadol gydag acrylig. Mae hi'n arddangos ei gwaith yn rheolaidd, ac ar hyn o bryd, mae ei phaentiadau i'w gweld yn yr Wyddgrug, Qube Croesoswallt, Bywyd: Lliw llawn yng Nghaernarfon ac yn Ffair Gelf Lerpwl 2023. Mae Helen wedi cynnal dosbarthiadau celf yn lleol ers 2011 ac mae hefyd yn gweithio ar ystod eang o brosiectau celf cymunedol.
