Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, backs councillors who want the public to have their say on whether more politicians are needed in Wales.
This week Labour councillors in Flintshire have expressed their concern against party plans to expand the Senedd and have called for a referendum.
Mr Rowlands, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Minister for Local Government said:
I completely agree with Flintshire Labour councillors who want the public to have their say on whether Welsh Parliament need more members.
It is something Welsh Conservatives are totally against. It is totally unnecessary, and the proposal will also cost an eye watering £100m to implement at a time when every penny counts.
This is yet another Welsh Labour Government vanity project which we can ill afford and the people of Wales will suffer for it.
We do not need another 36 politicians and all that goes with that. The money would be better spent on the NHS, improving education and encouraging investment in Wales.
We know from the feedback from the disastrous roll out of the 20mph blanket speed limit that the Labour Party do not listen to the public. It is about time they took note of what their own party councillors are telling them.
They need to scrap the ridiculous 20mph speed limit and hold a referendum on expanding the Welsh Parliament.
Sam Rowlands AS yn cefnogi cynghorwyr Llafur Sir y Fflint sydd eisiau refferendwm ar ehangu'r Senedd
Mae Sam Rowlands, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn cefnogi cynghorwyr sydd am i'r cyhoedd gael rhoi eu barn ar a oes angen rhagor o wleidyddion yng Nghymru.
Yr wythnos hon mae cynghorwyr Llafur yn Sir y Fflint wedi mynegi eu pryderon ynghylch cynlluniau'r blaid i ehangu'r Senedd ac wedi galw am refferendwm.
Meddai Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Llywodraeth Leol yr Wrthblaid y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig:
Rwy'n cytuno'n llwyr â chynghorwyr Llafur Sir y Fflint sydd am i'r cyhoedd gael rhoi eu barn ar a oes angen mwy o aelodau ar y Senedd.
Mae'n rhywbeth mae'r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn ei wrthwynebu. Mae'n gwbl ddiangen, a bydd y cynnig hefyd yn costio swm syfrdanol o £100m i'w weithredu ar adeg pan fo pob ceiniog yn cyfrif.
Mae hwn eto yn gam gwag arall gan Lywodraeth Lafur Cymru na allwn ei fforddio a bydd pobl Cymru yn dioddef yn ei sgil.
Does dim angen 36 o wleidyddion eraill a phopeth sy'n mynd gyda hynny. Byddai'n well gwario'r arian ar y GIG, gan wella addysg ac annog buddsoddiad yng Nghymru.
Rydyn ni’n gwybod o'r adborth o'r broses drychinebus o gyflwyno'r terfyn cyflymder 20mya nad yw'r Blaid Lafur yn gwrando ar y cyhoedd. Mae'n hen bryd iddyn nhw gymryd sylw o'r hyn y mae cynghorwyr eu plaid eu hunain yn ei ddweud wrthyn nhw.
Mae angen iddyn nhw gael gwared ar y terfyn cyflymder chwerthinllyd o 20mya a chynnal refferendwm ar ehangu’r Senedd.
