Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is backing an initiative to help people think differently about dementia.
Last week, Mr Rowlands, Shadow Minister for Health and a keen supporter of Dementia UK expressed his support during National Dementia Week.
He highlighted the work which was being carried out by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in helping to raise awareness of dementia and the support available for those affected.
He said:
I was delighted that BCUHB supported the campaign by offering information about dementia at stalls in hospitals across North Wales so that staff, patients and visitors were able to learn more about the illness.
As a keen supporter of any moves which ultimately helps and supports people suffering from dementia and their families, I am also pleased to hear about free upcoming training to help people understand the illness.
Dementia is a terrible debilitating illness and it is good to see Wrexham Council working in partnership with Dementia Adventure to offer this training.
The online training is aimed at family and friends who support someone living with dementia and it is well worth booking your place.
As an MS for North Wales I am always happy to support and help to highlight this illness and continue to raise awareness with Welsh Parliament.
‘Understanding Dementia better’ is a free training session will help people to think differently about dementia and equip them with new skills and confidence.
The informal session is really practical, offering strategies, hints, tips and guidance. It has been developed around Dementia Adventure’s mission to think differently about dementia. A focus is on the individual and not the condition, looking at what they can do, not what they can’t.
The online session takes place 1.30pm – 3.30pm on Monday, June 3. Book your place on the online session through Eventbrite.
If you prefer, you can watch the session from the training room at the Wellbeing Hub. If so, we advise arriving at around 1pm to allow time to get in, grab a drink and be ready for when the session starts. There’s also an opportunity to have a chat with other carers when the session finishes, so you might want to allow some extra time for this.

Sam Rowlands AS o blaid hyfforddiant i helpu i ddeall dementia yn well yng Ngogledd Cymru
Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn cefnogi menter i helpu pobl i feddwl yn wahanol am ddementia.
Wythnos diwethaf, mynegodd Mr Rowlands, Gweinidog Iechyd yr Wrthblaid a chefnogwr brwd i Dementia UK ei gefnogaeth yn ystod Wythnos Genedlaethol Dementia.
Tynnodd sylw at y gwaith a oedd yn cael ei wneud gan Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr i helpu i hybu ymwybyddiaeth o ddementia a'r gefnogaeth sydd ar gael i'r rhai sy’n cael eu heffeithio.
Meddai:
Roeddwn wrth fy modd bod BIPBC wedi cefnogi'r ymgyrch drwy gynnig gwybodaeth am ddementia mewn stondinau mewn ysbytai ledled y Gogledd fel bod staff, cleifion ac ymwelwyr yn gallu dysgu mwy am y salwch.
Fel cefnogwr brwd o unrhyw symudiadau sydd yn y pen draw yn helpu ac yn cefnogi pobl sy'n dioddef o ddementia a'u teuluoedd, rwyf hefyd yn falch o glywed am hyfforddiant rhad ac am ddim sydd ar y gweill i helpu pobl i ddeall y salwch.
Mae dementia yn salwch gwanychol ofnadwy ac mae'n dda gweld Cyngor Wrecsam yn gweithio mewn partneriaeth â Dementia Adventure i gynnig yr hyfforddiant hwn.
Mae'r hyfforddiant ar-lein wedi'i anelu at deulu a ffrindiau sy'n cefnogi rhywun sy'n byw gyda dementia ac mae'n werth cadw lle.
Fel AS dros Ogledd Cymru, rwyf bob amser yn hapus i gefnogi a helpu i dynnu sylw at y salwch hwn a pharhau i godi ymwybyddiaeth gyda’r Senedd.
Mae ‘Understanding Dementia better’ yn sesiwn hyfforddi am ddim a fydd yn helpu pobl i feddwl yn wahanol am ddementia â rhoi sgiliau a hyder newydd iddyn nhw.
Mae'r sesiwn anffurfiol yn ymarferol iawn, gan gynnig strategaethau, awgrymiadau, cyngor ac arweiniad. Fe'i datblygwyd yn seiliedig ar genhadaeth Dementia Adventure i feddwl yn wahanol am ddementia. Mae ffocws ar yr unigolyn ac nid ar y cyflwr, gan edrych ar yr hyn y gall ei wneud, nid yr hyn na all ei wneud.
Cynhelir y sesiwn ar-lein 1.30pm – 3.30pm ddydd Llun, 3 Mehefin. Cadwch eich lle ar y sesiwn ar-lein trwy Eventbrite.
Os yw'n well gennych chi, gallwch wylio'r sesiwn o'r ystafell hyfforddi yn yr Hyb Llesiant. Os felly, fe’ch cynghorir i gyrraedd tua 1pm i ganiatáu amser i fynd i mewn, cael diod a bod yn barod pan fydd y sesiwn yn dechrau. Mae cyfle hefyd i gael sgwrs gyda gofalwyr eraill pan fydd y sesiwn yn dod i ben, felly efallai y byddwch chi am neilltuo ychydig o amser ychwanegol ar gyfer hyn.
I wylio'r sesiwn o'r Hwb Llesiant cysylltwch â [email protected]
